Growth Mindset Journal

I could use these skills more by trying to motivate myself on something that I find hard and tricky. This could be by maybe rewarding myself when I complete a piece of homework or art. I could also try to take walks in order to get inspiration for my writing and find the determination to try again. Additionally, I can try to do art in my work by doodling when I need a break from writing. Overall, art taught me how to stay focus and determined.

Can you think of a time you received fixed mindset praise? Or a time your received growth mindset praise? Did you notice a difference in your success 

I have had growth and fixed mindset many times in my life. I had a fixed mindset when giving up on a certain drawing because I couldn’t draw the arms right. I had a growth mindset when reading a new genre of book and really enjoying the book. The main difference is that I didn’t give up when I had the growth mindset.

1.I showed this mindset when I talked to my friend for a little while even though I didn’t feel like talking to anyone.	 2.I have had a fixed mindset when I was younger and I brought a bag with a race car on it. This caused me to later cry because I was scared the other people will think I’m weird. 3.I showed this mindset when encouraging someone else to share their idea to group.	 1.I have had a fixed mindset when not being able to make the perfect drawing thus, I erase my whole picture. 2.I showed this mindset when choosing the activity my friends want to do over my own.I have had a fixed mindset when only doing the bare minimum of work for my homework.

I had a fixed mindset when drawing because I want to able to just draw a picture without a part of the drawing going terribly wrong. When something I put a great deal of effort into goes badly I get extremely upset. I can try fixing this by trying to be experimental with my art more often thus, I will get used to trying new techniques and failure. I will experience failure because when trying something new with art I will most likely have to restart my art pieces a lot. Overall, I hope by trying to have a growth mindset on art I might help me become a better artist.

What have realize about your own grit and effort?

I have realized that I have a hard time with grit through my whole life. This is due to my lack of motivation when doing a subject that I find uninteresting. I have gotten better through trying to distance myself from distractions and finding a good work environment. However, I still find that I usual finish my work at 11 o’clock and have to wake up early to double check if my grammar is correct. I hope to improve my grit in the future and be able to write without break for hours in the future.

How have your thoughts on intelligence changed as a result of new understanding?

This new understanding taught me that their are different types of intelligence. It has taught me that intelligence is not set in stone and that their are different types of intelligence. This information has also taught me not to judge people’s intelligence based on how well they do in school.

How will you keep your growth mindset time after time, task after task, through failure and success?

I will keep a growth mindset when I fail by identifying why I failed. I will look on how long I worked on the project, how I motivated myself and what I about the final product did my teacher dislike. Overall, this method will help me improve the next time I try to do the project.

What factors can you identify that will help you succeed 

I think the factors are a good working environment. First, I need to be motivated to do the work and be willing to try new things because I’m motivated to succeed. Additionally, while I’m working I need to be in a quiet area. I also need to able to plan what times I will work on the project and get it done

Where do you show these skills best?

I believe I show the most grit when drawing. Even thought I usually need small breaks to fully finish an art piece, I find that with project that have to do with art I will spend most of my time and effort creating the actual are piece. This makes for a good are piece however, the writing is usually rushed since I spent so long on the art. I believe I have so much grit in art because it is an activity that I want to do in the future. Additionally, even if it’s hard to complete a piece of art, the end result is mostly something I can be proud of. Overall, I hope we incorporate more art in the future.

What are you willing to fail at this year in order to learn?

I think I’m willing to fail at things I’m not so good at. I want to try new things and be able to learn from my mistakes and try again. I think I can take failure when trying new things because I suspect myself to fail and its won’t be subject that is to close with my pride.

How have your thoughts on achievements in school changed as a result of new understanding?

My thoughts of achievement have most definitely changed somewhat due to the new understanding. It taught me that baby steps are okay if you aren’t good at the subject. It also taught me even if I don’t do great academically their still is a lot of other subjects I do really well in that affect my intelligence.
