Mr. Beebot

What is a beebot?

Mr Beebot is really cool!! He teaches me control, directional language and programming.
He helps me visualize paths in my head as he moves in instructional coded directions when I press the buttons on his back!!
Mr Beebot has developed my cognitive skills! Because of him, I can now visualise paths and enter directional instructions on Mr Beebot so he can reach a destination.

My Experience of using a Beebot
How Beebots can be used in the classroom
My first time using a beebot was on a race track map. Laura and I chose a place on the map that we wanted our beebot to reach. This required a lot of concentration as we tried to visualize in our heads the path we wanted the beebot to take, we then had to match this path to the instructions we needed to give the beebot. Over our first few attempts we often miscalculated the direction in which the beebot would go. However, over time we got better at this.
Literacy: Beebots can be used when teaching English and Irish! Through the use of beebots children are taught directional language such as left, right, straight etc. Through the use of beebots children are also encouraged to use new vocabulary as they create stories regarding their beebots journey. Mats (like the one pictured below) can be used to develop literacy.

Maths: Beebots can be used when teaching Maths. Through beebots children can be introduced to geometry through mats with shapes on them (pictured below). Beebots also introduce children to pattern and sequences as they create their beebots journey.

Geography: Students can gain an understanding of maps as they navigate their way around different mats for example, we were shown a treasure map in class. As I forgot to take a photo of it - I have attached a mat with a town instead which could be used in the same context. By allowing children to use this mat they may be introduced to geographical concepts such as : co-ordinates.
