Story of the Lighthouse: It was very challenging for people to build the lighthouse in the 1870s, due to the weather and remote location. Army Col. R.S. Williamson chose the location due to the fast travel to Newport, Oregon. George Davidson also helped build it. After it was built on August 20, 1873, the people called it “Cape Foulweather Lighthouse”. It wasn’t until the 20th century that people started calling it “Yaquina Head Lighthouse”.

Fun fact about the lighthouse it has 135 steps and is the only lighthouse with living quarters in Oregon.

The reason you can’t take home rocks from Yaquina head is because they are a limited resource and if everyone took one there would be none left after a while. Even though some people take the rocks they end up felling bad and mail the rocks back which I find very funny.

I didn’t touch anything but I saw this large sea star. And didn’t have my phone so I sketched it.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Visitors Center

The reason the marine science centre has a tsunami machine in the visitor area is to get people to start talking about tsunamis. Also it could be there to be fun and show you how dangerous they are, they had lego to build a fort or something.

Our group was a bit slow completing the shell and adding the motor, we had to use a lot of tape to hold stuff in place because the pipes were not the proper size for our ideas. After that we had to add the proper. Amount of floats that was easy, but the up/down motor was on the bottom not top so we had to move the magnet to the bottom to try and pick up stuff. The controls were wonky but I was relatively okay at controlling it. In the end I did not get anything, and realised that simpler is easier, we started with complicated then restarted and made it easier.

I am pretty sure the reason tilamook was founded in Oregon is because there was 5 or so cheese factories in a valley and they were like instead of fighting we should combine as tillamook. Also the valley is really good for raising dairy cows, and there is a port nearby to export the products.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Estuary Investigation

I think that the world needs citizen scientists because they might do something the scientists would not have thought of good or bad. They could also help with observing stuff like population or new diseases. They could also want to become a scientist after doing the experiment or something. They could become an inventor or something.

I think these activities are important to small communities because it is something to attract tourists and gives the locals something to do if they are ever really bored.

I didn’t really take any pictures of bullwinkes because I was having so much fun I forgot.

Hatfield Marine Science Center Speedy Science

We had to do an experiment about the different factors that could make a crab faster. We set up an experiment male V.S. female. We put the crabs into the middle of a hula hoop and timed how long it took them to reach the end of the hoop. All the crabs were around the same size and we did everything the same for each crab. And the male crabs won.

On the first quest we kinda skipped a few clues and then got stuck on one thing. Another thing some people just ran off with no warning it was so annoying, we could have shared the map to help us, we could have also listened to each other. Another thing that might have helped us improve is talking to the locals which was very helpful in the later quests.

I think wolf haven is important because it helps save tons of wolves, as writing this there are 47 wolves there. They have grey wolves, red wolves which are declining in population there are around 147 of them, they have Mexican wolves there used to be 7 but now there are around 300. It is a safe haven for wolves like the name suggests they take young wolves and release them if they can if not then the wolves stay here for the rest of their life. In all of their 42 years of existing only one wolf has ever escaped they dug a den underneath the fence and the safety person was there and saw the wolf just there luckily it was put back easily. Thayer have a prairie beside the wolf area so nobody could build there but they transformed it into a nice prarie with this massive tree

Depoe Bay is known as the hardest navigatable harbor. On March 11, 2011, the port was damaged by a tsunami caused by an earthquake off the coast of depose bay.

To mate and go up to Florida or California to eat and stuff.I learned how to pick up a crab, what kind of sea birds are out on the sea the different directions in sailor talk, that whales go down to Mexico and places  to mate and. Go up to Florida or someplace to eat and stuff.

I would be willing to cross the bar. I think the reason I would be willing to cross the bar is because the hardest part an elite bar pilots job is getting on and off the boat. Also if the bar was relatively calm it should be easy enough. (famous last words)

Cannon Beach is most well known for haystack Rock. It is sometimes called the fourth largest intertidal rock in the world.

In fort stevens I learned about ww 2. There was a guide that brought us aruond the forts and told us about the training and buildings. I also learned that this fort is the only mainland bunker to have been attacked by a Japanese submarine, they shot some missels and missed all of the shots. There were some people going larping and it was really cool because you could learn a lot about the stuff in the war, like British people used wicker baskets to carry their stuff while America used wooden and metal crates.

I am excited to see bald eagles because they are the symbol of America where we are going. They are also really cool and supposedly at the buisness I am making an ad for Yaquina Head.

I am looking forward to seeing the Yaquina head lighthouse because it is the buisness I will be interviewing.

Columbia River Maritime Museum First Nations Section

The impact the first colonists had on the First Nations is kind of hard to explain but I will try to. The first Natons got to trade with the colinists and got boomsticks (guns), steel tools, cloth, and new ways to do stuff. The Europeans and others sent priests to “save” the First Nations from purgatory or something and some of the First Nations transferred but most died from the diseases spread. The colinizers were taking more and more land some by force others by treaties but the First Nations couldn’t speak English and the colinizers couldnt speak with the First Nations and the First Nations did nit understand owning land so they singed whatever. In the end the First Nations are almost extinct lost most of their land and have gotten no recognition in the war. But we are still trying to help them even after all the bad stuff we di to them.
