Introduction
Hello everybody, today you will read about a famous women named, Coco Chanel. She was well known for designing dresses for women. She also made lots of perfumes which had also made her famous because of their smell. You will learn about her career and what dresses made her famous, her childhood, and more.
Chanel's Childhood
Coco Chanel was born on August 19, 1883. Chanel was born into a very poor family and her father had left her when Chanel's mother died. Leaving her and her two sisters into an orphanage convent. Chanel's two brothers went to a local family. Coco Chanel got out of the orphanage at the age of 18.
Chanel's Career
In 1910, Coco Chanel opened her first shop with the help of a person named Arther "Boy" Capel who was very wealthy. Her shop was named, "Chanel Modes". She began by selling hats. 11 years later, she made her first perfume on May 5, 1921. The perfume was named, "Chanel No.5." Two decades later, World War 2 happened and Coco Chanel had to close her shop because the Germans had taken France. In 2014 French intelligence agencies released documents saying that Coco Chanel was working as a spy for the Germans in WW2. She was a spy for the Germans because she was in love with a Nazi.
The Aftermath of Chanel's Death
In the 1950's Coco Chanel started designing again. She died on January 10, 1971 at the age of 87 years old. Her last words were "You see, this is how you die." She said that to her maid on her bed. Pierre Wethiemer took over the company in 1974.
