Learning Advance 2022

Here is a blank page to add any random thoughts, pictures, and ideas. You will also be adding a reflection on the trip as a whole later!

This photo was taken during the photo walk after the rope ferry. It’s a good photo because it shows how we were out in nature. Also It shows the uniqueness of each tree.

I looked up loon lake. One of the activities was laser tag even though I don’t think we will be able to do it I think It would be a fun experience.

I think I will learn to be closer and work better with my fellow learners with all the group activities. 

Evening basketball showed my personal and social core competency. Because I am a night owl with energy starting late at night, and becuase I like basketball, I decided I would go play in the gym.  I have been playing on the Seycove team for two years working on my basketball skills. So this activity could use one of my strengths. Most of my friends do not like basketball. A few of my friends did come but we ended up in different groups. Also there were few girls there. Considering I like to be with people I am comfortable with, this activity was a stretch for me. Next time, I would convince more of my friends to come because I enjoyed myself but wished I had more people I knew there. COVID has limited my interactions with other human beings. Personal and social growth was an important part of this trip and I was glad that I could get to know people.

Over the advance my team worked really well together. We were able to comunicate better than we do at school. We split up the tasks Sabrina and I worked on the script while zach, Fraser, and Cale worked on the mysterious object. I personally organized who would be working on what but next time I think we should have taken more breaks as my team and I had a hard time paying attention for the whole DI sweatbox time.

One place I found amazingly beautiful so far at Loon Lake is the lake because it looks so calm and peacefull.

Future field studies with PLP will be challenging but a great opportunity for growth! I look forward to being outside the school environment while still having experiences with my classmates. I loved the creative team challenges! A nosiy cabin was hard this time and I expect it will be next time as well. Next time I will talk to a teacher when I get anxious about schoolwork. I am very glad that I tried and participated in every activity. Future field studies will be exciting!

Over all I really enjoyed this learning experience.

Loon Lake Learning advance

Today we did laser tag which was one of my favorite parts of the advance. We played grade 9 vs grade 8 grade 8 won every time but it was still fun. I was about to learn how to quickly come up with a strategy to help my team. We found that high ground with lots of obstacles was the best place to be. With this knowledge we always raced up the the yew and arbutis cabins so we could have an advantage. We also learned that having a person who dosen’t have a gun as a medic was best so that they could heal you quickly without having to worry about dieing. I realized that we should have lisend to the instructor more as he gave helpful tips that we didn’t listen to causing us to lose.

Hello my name is Faith Scheewe I’m a 14-year-old girl who goes to Seycove secondary school and is in the performance learning program. I belong to a family of six, a dog, and twelve cousins. At school I’m quiet but around my friends and at home I am loud. I enjoy reading dystopian books and watching Netflix. I play volleyball and basketball. My favourite classes are drama, engineering, and PE. I really enjoyed this field study because it was away from the school environment but still with my classmates and teachers.

Battle archery was my favorite part of the advance and it showed my thinking core competency. I really enjoyed this activity and I was kinda good at it. It was a learning experience that I have never had or seen before. I had to creatively think about how I was going to help my team win. Strategize, aim, react quickly, and think about where to shoot from so I could get angle that I needed to get people behind barriers. A stretch for me in this was that in lots of class activity’s I stay more in the background don’t talk very much but in this one I participated fully and showed my strength in this game and because of that I got to play every round and we won every round. If we did this again I would communicate with my team more so we could win faster.

Shelter building was my favourite activity of today. I learned how to better work in as a team with communication, dividing up tasks and listening to other people’s ideas. Our instructor told us about three types of shelters. Our group chose to do a tipi/lean-to. Building is one of my strengths and I could see how each piece should be used. I know that I can work well with this group of people on a task and that might be helpful for future projects. I also know how to build a shelter. I may starve. Die of thirst. But my shelter will be great!
