Hi!
Welcome back to story time. It looks like we will be having our story times online for a bit longer. Today's story is about going for a walk and listening to all kinds of different sounds. But first let's start with calendar.

Since I don't know which day of the week you will be reading our story, let's name them all and you tell your story time partner today's name.

First we will start with our month...
Sunday
Friday
Monday
Wednesday
Tuesday
Thursday
Saturday
So who has joined us for story time today. Let's sing our "Let's All Clap" song.

Let's all clap cuz we're all here,
We're all here,
We're all here.

Let's all clap cuz we're all here.
We're all here today.

Sing as many times as you would like. Today, you can name everyone in your house.
Since our story today is about going for a walk, let's get our bodies moving with our friends from The Learning Station. Get up and dance along to Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes. Make sure you listen because it just might be different than what you are used to singing.
Wow! What did you think of that song? Are you out of breath? That was super fun.
Our story today is called, "The Listening Walk" by Paul Showers. Listen to all of the different sounds the little girl hears on a walk with her dad. In order to hear all of the different sounds, the girl has to be very quiet.
Can you name 5 things the girl heard on her walk. Talk about it with your story time partner and see how many different sounds you can remember from the story.
Go on your own listening adventure. Maybe it is a walk around your neighborhood or a walk around your yard. See if you can hear any of these sounds. Put an X in the box if you hear the sound. Have your story time partner help you. I put a link to a copy of this document if you are able to print.

I hope you had a great time today. You can go on a listening walk anytime. You don't even have to go for a walk. Sometime when you play outside, be very quiet and still just for a moment. What do you hear? Can you hear any bees buzzing or rain drops on the sidewalk, or the wind blowing the leaves?

Or stop and listen when you are playing inside. What do you hear then? Can you hear someone in the kitchen? How about the TV? Do you hear music anywhere?

When we are quiet just for a moment, we can hear all sorts of different sounds.

I can't wait to see you again, but until then, let's sing and dance to our good bye song. Lots of Love, from Miss Holli.
I love hearing from you. Any suggestions or just to say, "Hi", drop me an email. hollis@mcbridelibrary.org
