Hi Story time friends!
How are you today? Let's start out with the weather this time. What's it doing outside today? Is it sunny, windy, rainy, cold, warm? Tell your story time buddy what you see outside.

Now we can talk about days of the week. What day is it today? You and your story time buddy can point to the right day.
Today is _________________________, April _____, 2020
Today we are going to talk about things that live in the bottom of the ocean. Can you name some things that are in the ocean? Tell your story time buddy.
After you name things you see in the ocean, let's get up and dance. Sing along with Laurie Berkner , "Let's go Swimming."
Did you swim like a fish? Can you get up and practice all the different ways a fish may swim through the ocean? Some fish move fast, some slow, some move up and down or even crawl on the bottom of the ocean floor. See how many different ways you can move like a fish. How about a fish face? Can you make a fish face? Here is a picture of our fish faces.
Now do this finger play with us.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5,
Once I caught a fish alive.
6, 7, 8, 9, 10,
Then I let him go again.
Why did you let him go?
Because he bit my finger so.
Which finger did he bite?
This little finger on my right!
How about one more song. This one is fun. It's a classical piece by a French composer and he wrote it over 100 years ago. His name is Camille Saint Saens. This is one song from a bigger composition he wrote called Carnival of the Animals. This one is about fish. He has others about giraffes, elephants, and other animals. In future story times we will listen to some of the other pieces written by Saint Saens.

If you have a scarf or a small blanket, go get it. You can use it to dance along with this piece. As you listen, see if you can imagine you are swimming in the ocean with the sea animals. The slow, dreamy sounds of this piece remind me of fish. See how many different ways you can swim along with this song. You can pretend to go deeper in the ocean as the music notes go down, you can pretend to roll along the bottom of the ocean floor, and as the music gets louder at the end, you can swim back up to the top of the ocean. Have fun with this!
Now that you've come back from the ocean, get dried off and sit down and enjoy the story, The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister.
I really like this story. What did you think?
*What did The Rainbow Fish think about his beautiful scales?
*Why do you think the little blue fish wanted one of Rainbow Fish's beautiful scales?
How did the other fish feel when The Rainbow Fish wouldn't play with them?
*How did the fish feel when The Rainbow Fish shared his beautiful scales with them?

Don't we feel good when someone shares with us?
Can you think of ways you can share something with someone? We have all kinds of things we can share?
Can you think of something you can share? Books? Toys? How about kindness? Can we share being kind to our family? How about a hug or a kiss? What about a nice back scratch for someone at home?
