Hello!
Welcome back to story time. We started our online story times in March, our calendar then turned to April, and now we are in another new month. Do you know what month we are in?
Next we have the days of the week. As usual, I never know what day you are reading the story, so you and your story time friend can choose which day of the week it is today. I know a fun little song to help us remember the days of the week. Are you ready?

*Dear Parents and Story Time Friends,
Just a little side note to let you know I would never expect your preschooler to know the month or the day of the week or especially to recognize the words in writing. We do talk about them just to familiarize children with the words and with routine.
This week during our story time, we are going to read about a very hungry caterpillar. Do you know why caterpillars are very hungry? They eat and eat and eat so they grow bigger and wrap themselves up into a cocoon. While they are in the cocoon, they continue to grow until they POP! Then they fly out as a beautiful...

BUTTERFLY!
I have a fun song for us from our friends at The Learning Station. It's about a hungry caterpillar. While you listen to the song, see if you can hear the words chomp, chomp, chomp. Can you clap your hands together like an alligator and make them chomp? Then listen for the word POP. Can you jump up and clap your hands together to make a big pop sound? During the song our caterpillar turns into a butterfly. Can you fly around like a butterfly. Be very careful though. Butterflies are gentle and land quietly and lightly on flowers. Can you fly gently and quietly like a butterfly?
Let's practice before we listen to the song. First, let's chomp chomp, chomp.
Are you ready to POP? 1,2,3, jump up and POP! Now it's time to fly like a beautiful butterfly. Don't forget...fly gently and quietly. Very nice! Now push play and sing along with the hungry caterpillar.
That was a fun song. What part did you like the best? Did you like to chomp, chomp, chomp? Did you like to POP out of the cocoon? Was it fun to fly like a butterfly? Maybe you liked it all!

Before we start our story, let's stand up and shout out our Hello Neighbor poem.
Hello Neighbor!
What do ya say?
It's going to be a beautiful day!
So clap your hands
And stomp your feet.
Turn around and take a seat.
Now it's time for our story. Enjoy listening to The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. I gave you two choices. The first one is read by the author Eric Carle. The second reading shows the illustrations very nicely. Enjoy them both!
WOW! That was a very hungry caterpillar. Can you count some of the things the caterpillar ate from our story today?
The following items from the story are in the picture:
1 apple, 2 pears, 3 plums, 4 strawberries, 5 oranges, chocolate cake, ice cream cone, lollipop, watermelon, pickle, swiss cheese, salami, cherry pie, and a cupcake.
Here are a couple of more books about caterpillars. Charlie the Caterpillar is one of my favorites. If you have time today, enjoy the stories. If not, you can always come back! When you are finished, sing along to our good bye song.
I miss you all!
Miss Holli
