Previous Multiplication Strategies
This picture is showing the strategy of breaking numbers apart by place value to multiply them. For the equation 85 x 63, the numbers are broken into 80 and 5 as well as 60 and 3. In order to solve this problem, you must multiply each part in one number by both parts in the other number. 80 times 60, 80 time 3, 5 times 60, 5 times 3. Once all of the smaller multiplication problems are solved, you can add up all the answers to reach your final answer of 5,355
