Have you ever gotten sunburned? What did it feel like?
Speech Bubble
The sun’s rays can cause serious sunburns when we are not protected
How powerful is the sun?
super powerful!!
●Because the sun is hotter in the summertime, you are more likely to get sunburned then
●However, you can get sunburned in the winter or even on cloudy days and even if you don’t get sunburned, the sun can still be impacting your skin
●The sun is strongest every day from 10 am – 3 pm, so it is best to not be directly in the sun for too long during that time period
Because of how powerful the sun is, it is so important to protect yourself when you are out in the sun!
We want to keep our skin safe and healthy. Too much time in the sun not only gives us painful sunburns, but it can also cause skin cancer.
How can we protect ourselves when we are in the sun?
wear a hat
●A hat can protect your face, ears, scalp, and neck
●Hats with large brims or flaps on the back are super good
balance indoor and outdoor time on sunny days
●On the hottest summer days, especially from 10 am – 3 pm, try to do both indoor and outdoor activities so you aren’t out in the sun for too long
How can we protect ourselves when we are in the sun?
put on sunscreen
●Look for sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF) number
●Make sure to reapply sunscreen, especially if it rubs off when you swim or exercise
●Find the kind you like best (lotion, spray, stick)
wear sunglasses
●Sunglasses protect your eyes, which can be very sensitive to the ultraviolet (UV) rays that come from the sun
