A message from Mrs Robinson...

I hope you really enjoy this edition of The Splash. It is always good to celebrate the learning and curriculum experiences of the children and reflect on all they have achieved over a half term.

Staff have been busy recognising pupils for all the positive behaviours they show and those who regularly go above and beyond to put effort into their work and follow the school rules: Ready, Respectful, Safe. We have worked on manners remembering to politely greet adults in corridors and smile. We have shown lots of acts of kindness and thought of ways to make others feel good.

I have really enjoyed handing out gold awards to pupils for their great effort.

I hope you all have sunny and happy half term break and I look forward to the rest of the summer term. Lots more still to achieve. Mrs Robinson

Bude Primary Academy - Juniors, School Council
This term, school council have been involved in finding out from children around school how to make playtimes better.
They created their own pupil voice questionnaires and surveyed their own classes in order to collect as many viewpoints as possible.
The next school council meeting will be the first Friday back after half term. Hopefully we can begin to implement some of their amazing ideas for creating fantastic playtimes for all.

Blackrock
In Blackrock we have been exploring Greek mythology, discovering the story of Theseus and the Minotaur and how he conquered the Minotaur in King Minos's maze. This has then led us on to write our own mythological story and produce some mythological artwork.
In PSHE we have been looking at "Our Body". The organs functions, what makes us healthy, what is helpful and harmful to our body and what we can do to look after our bodies.
In maths we have been working on fractions and when we talked about sharing the chocolate bar we all agreed that half was definitely the better fraction than a third ! šŸ˜‹
Crooklets
We have been so busy in Crooklet's class! We have been writing some incredible Greek Myths, based on Theseus and the Minotaur.
The children have been learning all about possessive apostrophes and using direct speech as well as using some incredible vocabulary.
We also did some baking! We made Greek honey cakes, which, although a smidge charred, were DELICIOUS!

We also used our fractions topic in maths to think about how our cakes need to be divided.

In art, we painted pots, similar to those seen in Ancient Greece. We used careful drawing to depict scenes that may have happened during this time.

In music we have been learning three little birds and learning the tune on the glockenspiel.
Duckpool
In Duckpool class we have been enjoying learning about the ancient Greeks. We began by learning about their creation story which involved the 12 Olympic Gods and Goddesses.
We wrote fact files about the mighty Zeus; we used our geographical skills to locate Greece and its islands, as well as, investigating maps of ancient Greece, noting how the country was once divided into a collection of smaller city-states. We placed major events on a timeline and wrote about the achievements and influence of the ancient Greeks on the wider world.
As part of this topic, we have used Modroc to sculpt our own Greek Gods and Goddesses. We enjoyed getting messy and exploring the shapes and textures we could get from squishing and shaping the Modroc. Iā€™m sure youā€™ll agree they were a brilliant success.
We have all been working extremely hard on improving our presentation skills. This can be seen in our beautiful writing based on the poem ā€˜Summer is hereā€™. (Next page).
In science, we have been learning all about flowering plants. We have been dissecting flowers, labelling parts of a plant and learning about their functions. We are now completing an investigation into whether seeds need light to germinate. The children predict that the seed in the dark wonā€™t grow. Watch this space and letā€™s see if our predictions are correct in the coming weeks.
