Our school council!

Mr Clarke would like to say a massive congratulations to everybody who applied for a position on school council this year. The voting in class was closely fought and was handled in a mature way by every child in school. I was extremely impressed by everybody who took part.

The School Council's first task will be to create an anti-bullying campaign that will be used throughout school. We will be meeting several times a term with the aim of making children's ideas a reality. I am really looking forward to the children having a louder voice around school and I can't wait to hear their ideas.

Poppy Class - September 2020

In Poppy class this month we have been learning on our phonics. Each week we have a sound of the week which we learn to say, read and write. So far these have been ‘m’, ‘a’, and ‘s’.

It is important for us in Poppy class to have lots of physical and sensory time so we have been enjoying our new outdoor equipment and some super messy play. The children particularly enjoyed playing in the shaving foam, making sure their hands weren’t the only part covered.

Our story has been ‘The Owl Babies’, which the children have thoroughly enjoyed. As part of this the children went outdoors and found some leaves to make lovely pictures of the three owl babies, Sarah, Percy and Bill.

Blackrock Class - September 2020

Welcome back! Blackrock have been working so hard and we are very proud of what they have achieved. We have been engineers in DT and made spinners, Physicists in Science and explored slip and slide. As musicians, we have been rocking out to the ring ting ting of metal. As artists we have been learning the art of embossing.
Thank you, Blackrock, for making it such an awesome introduction to the term and I am so impressed with your continued effort to read at home every day.

Crooklets - September 2020

Welcome back everyone! We are having a fantastic time in Crooklets class and I am so proud of all the children for their wonderful attitudes and excitement for learning.

As engineers, in DT, we made a pencil spinner, but who could make theirs turn for the longest? The winning result…Nina and Alana’s! Later in the week, we also busted out the hack saws to make carts! Well done all of team Crooklets - design development extraordinaries!

Our English learning has been a feast for the ears. We made our own beautiful (loud) rhythms, beats and booms with various metal instruments to help our poems (inspired by The Sound Collector and The Dream Drummer Girl).

Finally, check out our awesome science investigations. Careful setting up, measuring and recording has seen us making some awesome links between how things move on different surfaces and about forces in general.

Duckpool Class - September 2020

Duckpool children have made an impressive start in Year Three. They have “wowed” us with their enthusiasm and resilience in school, after so long away.

In class, we have been looking at Mighty Metals, exploring a range of exciting science investigations. Last week, we investigated forces in our PE lesson.

We also looked at which surfaces have the most friction when a model car runs over them. Archie and Tia are investigating a concrete surface. Using our new ICT skills, we then recorded the results on a table on Google Sheets – a spreadsheet. Next, we are making our own model vehicles so watch this space!

In English, we have been writing poems based on “the Sound Collector” – a poem by Roger McGough. Our steps to success included using nouns, verbs and rhyme. Here is a poem written by Ronja and Hannah, telling the tale of how silence descends on BPA!

School Sounds
A robber called this morning, She crept into the school, And snatched up all the sounds, She didn’t know the rule.
The talking of the teachers, The rattling of the lock, The brrrrmmm of the cars, And the ticking of the clock!
The scratching of the pencils, The banging of the trays, The whispering of the children, Learning every day.
The crunching of the crisps, The slurping of the drinks, The sizzling of the sausages, The gurgling of the sinks.
A robber called this morning, She didn’t leave her name, She left our school in silence, Life will never be the same!
