Stressed Out?!
Yeah, school and home can feel overwhelming at times, but there are ways to cope
As a highschool student it almost seems that there is always another project on the horizon, another exam next week, and another essay due at 11:59 p.m. It is no secret that school can be stressful. The rigorous academic environment at Early College High School, in particular, can create a culture of stress among the student body. While it is not possible to completely eliminate stress, we can learn how to manage it.
In order to implement strategies to help manage stress, it is important to identify major stressors. First, identify the sources of your stress. It is not enough to just say "school" or "my significant other." We must specifically identify what situations act as major stressors. Once you have identified those stressors a good rule of thumb is to address what you can change and learn to manage what you cannot. For example, you can change your schedule to allow for more study/homework time, but in many cases you may have limited power to change a stressful situation at home or at work. In some cases, you may also take actions now to prevent or diminish future stress. Some senior advice is to space-out your study sessions at least a week before an exam so you're not left pulling an all-nighter.
Additionally, one of the best ways to alleviate stress is sleep. Unfortunately, ECHS students are notorious for their unbalanced sleep schedules. Skipping a good night's rest may not seem to have serious consequences, but this habit can wreck your health in the long term. Getting enough sleep will help you perform better during the day, ward off stress, and increase your energy levels.
Again, we can't completely eliminate stress from our lives, but we can and should learn how to manage it. It is certainly much easier said than done, but ultimately living in a constant state of stress is unhealthy and will eventually begin to take a toll on other areas of your life.

Community Service with a smile!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Community service is a very engaging and vital part of ECHS. Students seeking to get involved, may take advantage of the community service opportunities offered throughout the year. Examples include the Trash Pickup events sponsored by Student Government and volunteering with Junior Achievement, which gets up to 8 hours of community service. For more information about Trash Pickup opportunities contact Mr. Silva. To sign-up for JA reach out to Mr. Brookshire. Students may obtain Community Service logs through their AVID teachers.

Math Team
ECHS Math Teachers go the extra mile to support students

It takes commitment, stamina, and some serious calculators to make sure ECHS students are ready for college math at TJC!
This year, ECHS welcomed two new math teachers; Kyle Stoltz and Shannon Kinkade who along with Cody Borel, our Math Department Chair, bring their passion for numbers and equations to the classroom. Ms. Kinkade joins us from Hogg Middle School and Mr. Stoltz has been working with Seniors to prepare for the SATs. We are so proud to have them here at ECHS!
