DECATS Daily 2018

Oh the Thinks You can Think, Oh the Places You'll Go, And after some time, the great things you will know. Thanks to DeBusk, and great fathers and mothers, We can nurture our talents, and have fun with others. Decats is a great place for learning and growing, And for students who have great talents for showing.

Do you want to be a colonist that explores "The New World?!" If so, History Alive is for you! In History Alive you get to make a plan with a certain amount of supplies and a situation as if you were a colonist in the 18th century! You could be in a plains with the threat of Native Americans! Or in a desert island with no help coming soon. You could have packed tons of wheat and corn, or be starved half to death! The teacher, Mrs. Everett, will give you situations to think about that would determine your survival. Then you have a chance to learn about why the colonists decided to Declare Independence and fight to become a new nation. We finished the class with a living wax museum becoming a historical figure that we chose to research. By: Cash Ramirez

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Do you think you are meant to be in the spotlight? If so, “So you think you can act” is for you. I interviewed Cristopher who is experiencing his 1st year in the class. Christopher’s favorite part about the class is all the games they play and all the interaction the class does. His favorite part about Mr. Luisi is how he acts so professional. I interviewed another 1st timer named Diya. Diya’s favorite part about the class is the acting in general. Diya’s favorite part about the teacher is how he is a good actor, how he is calm, and how patient he is. Diya claims this is her favorite class. I also interviewed Mr. Luisi who is the teacher of this class. Mr. Luisi hopes his class gets an appreciation of acting out of the class. He likes this class because acting has been a part of his life since he was a child. Mr. Luisi has been teaching his class since 2011 but he left in 2017. He came back this year which would make a total of 7 years. Every person in the class LOVES it and does not regret taking the class.

Field Day was Awesome! There was water, water, and well.... More water. The Balloon popping was probably the Loudest one of all! A wet sponge fight? Come on! Everyone was having fun! The cup activity Was super easy! My partner and I were so fast! It was great to have a day to play and have fun at the end of our first week!

Do you want to grow up to be a movie star? Then you're in luck! In the class movie night, you act in and shoot a themed movie of the teacher's choice. While taking this class you will audition for a part, shoot the movie around the school, edit the movie and then, you've made a film. Let's hear from one of the Movie Night scholars. Grace said she took this class because she loved and had a passion for editing and putting movies together. She likes that she is part of a cast and is learning all the different ways to film and act. She said people who like acting and filming should definitely take this class. Mr. Coffin is one of outstanding teachers who teaches Movie Night. One of Mr. Coffin's passions is movies and acting which made him choose to teach this class. He loves the entire process of making a movie. He likes seeing acting get taken to a whole new level. Mr. Crouse has always had a passion for acting since a child and that's why he chose Movie Night. Since he is an expert at acing, he is one of the directors of the movie. He can take a movie from nothing, and and turn it it to an amazing film.

School Spirit Day

Do you appreciate your school and the teachers that teach there? On school spirit day scholars support their school by getting their hair sprayed and wearing their school colors.&nbsp;Every Decats scholar comes to school showing pride and happiness that they are attending their school!!!

Do you want to make your own version of the Mona Lisa? Then true selfies is the class for you! The teacher, Mrs.Saunders, will teach you first the basic elements of sketching, then she will teach you how to make your self portrait to look just like you. Scholar Jimena Cobarrubias says that she likes true selfies because she can draw herself and others to look realistic. You will learn how to make it more realistic and how to make a self portrait from clay and chalk pastels.

By: Grayson Groves and Addison Smith A chance for fun and games came to Junior Decats this year! The Cardboard Arcade! Students from the Cardboard Challenge created their own games and gave Junior Decats a try. For you to play, you had buy a fun pass, a sheet of paper that had ten slots. Each slot represented a try for any game. Before you play the game, the game runner checked off a slot. There were many types of games ranging from a foosball board, shooting range and even a ticket counter. One weird but repeated form of ticket dispensing was a person squatting inside the game pushing the right amount of tickets out a slot cut out of the box. Once you had enough tickets, you then put them in the ticket counter, and he would count the tickets write the number down on the fun pass and you could buy prizes. The prizes ranged in 2 categories, price and type. The price ranged from 5 to 40 tickets and the type ranged from Candyland to a Nerf gun. Be sure to stop by!          Starting to write this in three...two...one! In JDTV (or Junior Decats Television) students film, report and direct a television station for the whole Junior Decats camp to see. Led by Mr. Luisi, the students fill the halls searching for stories and action. They use microphones and iPads to help them gather information for their channel. Normally, two anchors lead each episode and at the end of each episode, the others in the class jump in for a dance party. At the end of Junior Decats, they release multiple fun trailers that can be from many genres including scary, comedy, adventure and fantasy. Mr. Luisi said” The best qualities a person in JDTV can have are being curious, curious to find new stories, and to learn how to produce an interesting show.” His inspiration for teaching the class was that he had come to Junior Decats as a kid and enjoyed it so he decided to teach others the enjoyment. One of the students, Ariel Santiago, said that he likes being the producer of the group that he is in and enjoys being on camera because he likes being the opening scene. Bao-Tran likes being the camerawoman and filming the report or montage, though she doesn’t like being on camera because she thinks it is scary. But, surely one can understand. The Places You'll Go dress up day was a chance to dress up as what you want to be when you grow up or where you want to go. A contest was held to see who had the best costume. The winners of The Places You'll Go dress up day was Maddie dressed up as a Podiatrist oncologist, Lucy dressed up as a herpetologist, Grace dressed up as the big apple, Kingston dressed up as an older buisness man, Zachary dressed up as a magician, and Carter dressed up as a younger buisness man . DECATS scholar Emma Stadler dressed up as a vet for The Places You'll Go dress up day because she wants to be a vet when she grows up. Her favorite part of the dress up day was showing what she wanted to be and stating it.

In Decats Daily, the students ask questions to teachers and students, take photos of classes and special events and write fantastic stories that come from all around Junior Decats! In the beginning week of the class, the students volunteer to write report and photograph about every class special day and event, along with a partner. To complete each page, they go through a specific checklist, some of the steps include the following: Observation and photos, Interview Teacher, Write First draft, Peer Review, Edit and Publish to Memory Book. These hard-working scholars have braved the danger of photo-loss, short interviews and early deadline. Thank you Mrs. Everett and all the students who have made this awesome memory book and hope you have an amazing summer!

Do you like computers? Are you a technology genius? Then learning to code is the perfect hobby for you, and I have just the right course for you! I CAN Code... is the perfect class for learning how to code from scratch, but also have a lot of fun doing it! This is the teacher, Mrs. Rachuig's, first year teaching coding. Her favorite part is seeing the kids work when they are already so advanced! 

   Tristan and Megan, from I CAN Code..., are very big fans of this class. Tristan likes how you do lessons, but the teacher also allows to you have free time. Megan says even if you mess up the teacher will still help you! She picked this class because she loves coding! Tristan said, "I picked it because I love coding and when we do it at school I always get excited!"

     Ms. Sellers has been teaching Fore! for three years. She started playing golf when she was in 8th grade. Her goal by the end of DECATS is to have her students be able to swing and hit comfortably.

     DECATS Scholar Sarah Mejia has never done FORE! before. She wants to learn how to chip better. Her favorite part of FORE! is going outside and being able to hit a golf ball. Sarah would recommend this class to anyone who wants to get better at golfing, or wants to learn how to golf.

     Are you the next Jordan Spieth? Give it a swing! Learn the fundamentals of golf including the rules, vocabulary, and proper technique for golf.

Are you a future NBA superstar? This class is based on playing fun games and sports! We Asked Jackson why he picked this class, his response was “I picked let’s play games because it sounded fun!” This class is all about fun! So make sure to take this class if you want to play games! If you want to play fun games, then ‘’let’s play games’’ is the class for you! In “let’s play games’’ you play numerous games like basketball, soccer and other fun games. So stop to play in “let’s play Games”!

Staff Continued (again)..... The Amazing Aides

     If you are a war fanatic, DECATS Military History is just for you. Mr. Coffin teaches the children here about the world of militarized history. They first began to learn the discovery of weapons and the basic elements of war. Then they began to learn the art of war and major battles such as Bull Run, Battle of Lexington, Battle of Yorktown, and much more. The class also learns the ranks of the military and different forms of forces the military provides. The children love the engaging classes, and one of the students even said “It’s my favorite period of the day.”

Mrs. Whittemore has been teaching Say Yes To Yoga for about ten years. She decided to teach Say Yes To Yoga because she realized it helped other people and it helped herself, and she wanted to share that. Her goal for the end of DECATS is for her yogis (students) to be able to calm themselves and be aware of there breath not only at DECATS, but at school and at home. DECATS scholar Sophie Bustillo takes Say Yes to Yoga as her 4th period class. This is her first year taking Say Yes To Yoga and she loves every bit of it! She decided to take Say Yes to Yoga because she loves doing yoga and thought it would be fun. Her favorite part of yoga is when they do the savasana at the end of class. Savasana is when you lay still and close your eyes. The goal is not to fall asleep, but hover in between consciousness and unconsciousness. In Say Yes to Yoga Mrs. Whittemore adds something, a scented towel to cover your eyes.

    Felling stressed? If so then say yes to yoga! In this class you explore different poses to stretch and strengthen your body and do breath work to calm your mind.

Do you love drawing silly cartoons? If so, then cartooning is perfect for you. When I walked into the classroom, I thought, well this is loud. I also thought that the classroom was nice and cool. I interviewed Pearce who is experiencing her 1st year in cartooning with Mr. Ahern. So far, Pearce’s favorite part about the classroom is making a comic strip. Her favorite thing about the teacher is looking at his shiny, bald head! If Pearce had to describe him in 3 words, they would be funny, happy, and tall. She loves the horror story that he shares with Pearce-The Lady of the Lake. Pearce joined because she felt she needed to improve her drawing abilities. I interviewed another 1st year Decats scholar named Daniel. His favorite part about cartooning is drawing. His favorite part about Mr. Ahern is his funny stories. If Daniel had to use 2 words to describe the teacher, they would be funny and kind. Daniel says cartooning is his favorite class. Daniel joined to pursue his dream of becoming a cartoonist. He would also like to improve for his future profession. Mr. Ahern has been teaching cartooning for 15 YEARS!!! He teaches because he thinks teaching cartooning is fun. He loves cartooning and wants to share his talent with young students. Mr. Ahern hopes his students enjoy drawing as much as he does. His favorite part of teaching the class is interacting with the students. So there you have it.

Maybe your artsy, maybe your not. Maybe you like to draw on the spot. Perhaps you're an actor or maybe a nurse, who likes to put bandages on small cuts or worse. Or maybe you like to sell toys and slime, or maybe you'd like to go back in time. Or maybe you have a super cool passion, but either way have talent to cash-in. Come over to DECATS, you'll see what we mean, and then your cool talents can be noticed and seen! (Sorry, if we didn't mention your class, we had to finish this poem in order to pass!)

So stressful! Almost got it! "Aha! I figured out the word lock! It's syrup!" Kingston says. "Good job Kingston." The Mrs. Melle says. When I interviewed him, he said he really likes Mrs. Melle and she's really nice. Breakout EDU gives you a chance to use problem solving skills to race the clock to complete the challenge. So if you like knowing what's in the box, and unlocking locks, then "Breakout EDU" is the class for you!

&nbsp;&nbsp;In Advanced Drawing you are in a calm classroom with a teacher instructing you how to draw the subject. We interviewed Gerardo, a scholar taking advanced drawing. He picked advanced draw ing because he wanted to “Brush up his art skills.” He said that this class was all he expected and some. The kids in advanced drawing learn how to draw like a real artist. We interviewed another scholar who picked advanced drawing because it sounded fun. She said that it was a little&nbsp;bit of what she expected and was kind of hard.&nbsp; by Cash Ramirez

If you love to act, sing, dance, and perform then you should certainly take the musical next year. During the musical you'll learn to audition, sing, and act. You will perform solos, duets, and group numbers. Isabelle is one of the scholars who takes the musical. She chose this class because she loves acting and singing. She especially loves doing all the musical numbers. Ms. Corsi is one of the incredible teachers along with Mr. Coffin who teaches Suessical. Ms. Corsi chose to teach this class because musicals and teaching kids are her passions. She loves seeing the whole cast working together. She also loves seeing the joy the musical gives people.

Mrs. Saunders has been teaching at Jr. DECATS for 19 years. She started painting with watercolor when she was younger, and she has been doing it for 30 years or more. Some of the techniques they use are salt, water on water, rubbing alcohol, and saran wrap. Everyone in there has different and beautiful masterpiece of art. A lot of the kids love to use the salt method because it gives you texture on your painting. A few of the kids we interviewed said that they like watercolors because they like to make all their artwork look beautiful. This is a class that gives kids a way to make fantastic artwork.

This year celebrates 30 years of the DeBusk Foundation funding gifted education programs across the state of Texas. We dedicate this issue of the DECATS Daily memory book to them as a small thank you for all they have done for students like us!

Have you ever wondered what happened that created soil and rocks? Science Rocks! is a good place to figure that out. In this class, taught by Ms. Cabellaro, scholars learn earth science and the properties of rocks. One scholar, Sofia, joined this class because she thought it would be fun. She was interested in earth science, and wants to be an archaeologist when she grows up. She would give this class five out of five stars. She said," This class is amazing, and I would recommend it to anyone." In Science Rocks! scholars have made mini volcanoes, egg geodes, and found objects in a sand box like real archaeologists. This class is great for anyone who is interested in earth science and any one who wants to be a future archaeologists.

Do dream to be a celebrity?Then you should definitely take Video Star! While taking this class you'll pick a song to sing and dance to. Then you'll go around the school filming your music video. Then the video gets edited and you masterpiece is formed. Let's hear what some Video Star scholars have to say about this class.Alexander and Isabella took this class because they wanted to create a video and to know what's it's like to be filmed on camera. Their favorite part about this class was be able to move around,dance ,and sing. Ms. Corsi is the amazing teacher who teaches Video Star. Ms. Corsi is excited to teach this class because it has never been done before. She loves seeing the creativity the scholars give and seeing the video come together. If love singing, dancing, and being on camera, then you should certainly consider taking Video Star next year!

By: Grayson Groves The square root of fun is…Mathcation! In this exciting class, you are taken into the universal math wonders of our world. With their amazing teacher, Mrs. Rachuig, they can accomplish almost any math puzzle, formula and equation. Most people would think that after all the big facts and rules they’ve gone through, their heads would explode! But these courageous scholars have proved them wrong and have shown great interest and gratitude in the experience, of the amazing class, of Mathcation! Mrs. Rachuig said” I love Math and I love that students want to learn more about Math.” One of students said that she enjoys learn about and be better at Math and describes Mathcation as” A fun collaborative class” Who’s to say that you don’t use math in life, right?

On August 26, 2017 Hurricane Harvey hit Rockport, Texas. Rockport was one of the first Texas cities to be hit. Many building were destroyed, including Sacred Heart School. Ten months later at Junior DECATS, students were working to raise money to help rebuild this school. They had many fundraisers including the Cardboard Arcade, We Mean Business sales, and Mrs. Sheffield's Hair Salon. On the last Friday of DECATS, there were raffles, pizza, and performances. All the money that they raised will be sent to the school.

Do you love building cities with math? Then this class is perfect for you!!! This class has worked on their city from scratch! First they planned out their city by drawing plans and then they started making it! There are 3 or 4 people in a group. One person cuts out the shape, another person uses hot glue to make the shapes 3D, and the last person colors everything. I interviewed Catalina Mora who is experiencing her 1st year at Geometrocity. Her favorite part about the class is creating the buildings. Her favorite part about the teacher is how she is nice, inspiring, and attentive. Catalina says that this is her favorite class! I interviewed another 1st year scholar named Cooper Delaney.  Ms. Hillier, who has been teaching this class for 3 years, says she loves how the students work together in groups and have lots and lots of creativity. Ms. Hillier would never in her life change what class she teaches.

We had lots of fun at DECATS, and it was really great, it's only in the summer, but it's surely worth the wait! If you don't want to forget, we hope you'll take a look. At everything we've put in this wonderful memory book!

Science, Technology, you know the rest. This goes to show that #STEAM Team is the best! In STEAM Team, students go into a hands-on class where only your imagination is your boundary. They take some of the oldest technology and make their own version of it. One Student, Dylan said that his favorite part of this class was creating what they built and seeing how it turned out. They’ve gone from Bungee Jumping Dinosaurs to creating a perch for a little creature named Harry who is a fluff ball with a tail to creating a chair based on a specific design to hold three different stuffed animals. Dylan also said that they use everyday objects such as Popsicle sticks, cotton balls and cardboard boxes to make their projects and it was a very fun and interactive class. The teacher of the class, MS. Villanueva, said that she chose the class because it was a fun and interactive way to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Have you ever wanted your very own business?Well now you can!In WE MEAN BUSINESS You create your product, price it,then you sell your product to the fellow DECATS scholars!We Mean Business is raising money for the school " Sacred Heart " .They have earned Over 1,000 dollars.They sold : Slime, Paper figures, Student Sporting Goods, Stress balls, etc.This class is recommended for all young entrepreneurs!

This year, the Decats scholars made mats for the homeless out of plastic bags. I interviewed Lilly Riney whose favorite part was tying the bags to make the giant piece of "plarn". Lilly said she felt happy that she was making the world a better place. I interviewed another student named David Amador whose favorite part was crocheting the bags together to make a GIANT mat. David feels great that he was helping all the homeless people. He loves how all the homeless people get a bed to sleep in. I interviewed Msr. Everett who teaches all the students to crochet the mats. Mrs. Everett said "plarn" was "yarn" made out of plastic bags. It's used to knit mats for the homeless to sleep on. Mrs. Everett described it as soft, waterproof, and lightweight. This is Mrs. Everett's 1st year crocheting "plarn" mats. The "plarn" mats provide lots of comfort for people who don't have much.

From Field Day Fun, to Seuss Dress Up Day, Then to Mrs. Shefield's salon of hair spray, To school spirit day, and then to the Cardboard Arcade, After there's Pajamas, and Plarn Mats for aid. Here at Junior Decats we love special events, Some things were just for fun, and others made cents!

Are you bored at home with nothing to do? Then you should make a DIY rocket just like Have a Blast is making! In have a blast, the teacher will show you how to make an assortion of different rockets, and then, you will get to make them yourself and fly them. Scholar Cody Taylor says he likes have a blast because he loves to experiment new things. His favorite thing about the class is watching the movie Apollo 13. Another scholar named Jacob Pike likes the class because the teacher, Ms. Caballero, lets them do fun experiments. In this class you really will Have A Blast!

     Do you love to create things out of cardboard boxes? Do you love using hot glue, paint, and duct tape? Do you want to help create the DECATS Cardboard Arcade to raise money for a good cause? If so this class is PERFECT for you! Come unleash your creative genius and join the "Global Cardboard Challenge."

     DECATS scholar Thomas Rohrman takes Cardboard Challenge for his third period class. When asked about his favorite part of Cardboard Challenge he answered that he liked working with groups, raising money, and knowing where it goes. He chose this class because last year he played the games and had a lot of fun. This year he wants to make a game. His group is creating a pinball game. The point of their game is to keep the ball on the board without it falling off for as long as you can.

We give a very special thanks to all of our teachers, aids, and staff for taking their summer vacation to teach and help here in Jr.DECATS. All scholars are happy that each of you are with us to share your expert knowledge. A very special thank you goes to Mrs. Sheffield and Mrs. Smith for keeping us all motivated and everything running smoothly. I hope all the teachers &amp; staff have a great rest of the summer!

Hand Building in Clay by: Adrienne Frye and Zoe Silverstein

When you walk into Mrs. Luisi’s room, you can feel her scholars' concentration. There is a friendly and cozy atmosphere. The scholars really seem to enjoy this class. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In this class scholars learn different techniques such as molds, coils, and stamps. They will also be learning how to make slabs, a pinch pot, how to score and slip, about underglaze, and firing in a kiln. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Mrs. Luisi is the teacher for Hand Building in Clay and is always ready to help scholars improve their work. She has been teaching this class for 6 years. She says she likes this class because it gives her something fun to do. Mrs. Luisi likes the quote by Dr. Seuss: 'You’ll never be bored when you try something new. There’s really no limit to what you can do."

"Oh, the Thinks you can Think!"/Dr.Seuss really knew what he was talking about. Our decats scholars had a day to dress up as any Dr.Seuss character that they wanted. The creativity these scholars have is so brilliant!

First year scholar Courtney wanted to dress up as Cindy Loo Who so she put a water bottle in her hair to make it stick up. Alexandra wanted to be Cat In A Hat so she got the hat, but used white felt on a black athletic shirt, wore long black pants, and had a cat mask. There were so many cool costumes!

Ever wonder what it would be like if you could learn how to save a life or perform a medical procedure? You can at DECATS 911, some even say “It’s like a mini Med School.” The children here learn about strokes, seizures, CPR, drowning, and stitching, etc. I interviewed Oscar Tolle who is a new scholar in this class. His favorite part about the teacher is her stories about her medical injuries. Oscar joined the class because his dad made him. I asked Oscar if he regretted joining the class. He said it was the best decision his dad ever made for had made! Oscar was looking forward to whatever Mrs. Hyatt had planned! I interviewed another new scholar named Miles McGuire. His favorite part so far is learning how to stitch up a banana. His favorite part about Mrs. Hyatt is her enjoyable personality. Miles joined because his aunt battled and won cancer. Therefore, Miles wants to know more about cancer. They have the professionals be guest speakers, and have fun interactive groups on teaching and demonstrating skills like how to perform the Heimlich maneuver. Mrs. Hyatt even said that learning the medical world is essential for everyone and can maybe be valuable one day.

Adventures in Minecraft is the perfect class for all gamers and builders out there! In this class, you will learn how to build in the program, code your person to do what you want , make your own house, and create your name and face in pixel art!

The teacher, Mrs. Meinardus, says her favorite part about teaching Minecraft is she likes teaching kids how to code, and putting education in a game! "I like to see the students' creativity blossom in how they can take a simple idea and expand on it beyond expectation," she said. Make sure to keep Minecraft in "mine" for next year!

We interviewed a couple people from this course, and they had some great things to say! Daniel and Samuel said that they loved building their real life house in Minecraft! They said they chose this class because they love playing games, and their advice for future scholars is to always listen to the teacher!

Perspectives-1 “Oh the Thinks You can think”

At the beginning of every day at DECATS, we do our fist rotation of the day, the perspectives class. At this class the new scholars learn life building skills such as friendship, and team building skills. The first thing that we did was a bingo of things that we did or have, some of the questions are” Have you been to the Grand Canyon?” Another activity was when your best intelligence by completing a survey. The intelligence types were like naturalistic, or interpersonal. Then they added up their scores up and found their strongest intelligence. This exercise allowed to show that we need all intelligence to make a group. The perspectives class allow students to except each other’s differences and work with them. Come to the Wax Museum and find out about American History and what everyone in History Alive has learned in DECATS this summer.Each History Alive member dressed up as a historical figure and brought them to life as a statue. You get to go around and learn about all the historical figures and what they did to help America. The teacher Mrs.Everett says that this is a chance for her students to be able to share with others their excitement about somebody in American history that they studied during thier class period. (P.S. ,there's no real wax here!)

Robotics!

    Are you a future engineer? Then robotics is the class for you! In this course, you learn all about how to build LEGO machines, how coding works, and how to combine it all together into one amazing creation!

Let's see what some of our robotics scholars have to say! Laila and Alaina said that they chose this class because they love science, engineering, and math. Alaina said she wanted to build something that would change the world! "It's like a jigsaw puzzle," she says.

Ms. Lane is the robotics teacher here at Jr. DECATS. She loves teaching the kids how to problem solve, and so far her favorite robots have been catapults, gear changing robots, and multi-use robots!

It's time to get cozy! As you can guess,in pajama day, you get to come to Junior Decats in your pajamas. Some ranging from a minion cupcake robe, to a chewbacca, and to a guy walking into the gym shirtless! The teacher's even dressed up (well most, Mr. Luisi!)!No having to get dressed in the morning,probably,unless your parents make you get into new pajama's ,which takes some fun out of it it.Just don't fall asleep during Decats and have a great time!

#SpaceSquad is a terrific way to learn about the galaxy! You can learn about space, what's happening in the galaxies, and any other curiosity you have ever had about space! Ms. Villenueva, or Ms. V for short, is the #SpaceSquad teacher. She says that she chose to teach it because she loves seeing how excited the kids get learning about space! "I felt this would be a good class for kids to learn about different astronomy topics, such as stars, moons, and galaxies!" she says.

We interviewed 5 students from #SpaceSquad, and we are going to share some of our favorite answers! Lucas likes learning about sun stages, and Sebastian said he likes learning about planets! In class, they are building rovers, and that was Stella's favorite part! They all said they would take this class again, and Noah said he was super excited to learn about the south side of the galaxy. Shayden said he loves to learn, and everyone was very cooperative when we took pictures of their rovers! Great job with your first year of DECATS, Ms. V!!!

Did you ever want to dye your hair? Well,your wish has come true!Here in our colorful hair salon you get to do mixed up colors or just plain colors if you like,or you can even dye them your school colors and more.....

   Oh the Places We Can Go! In the Perspectives 2 class here at DECATS, we can get used to the teachers' different teaching styles! We go to 5 teachers- Ms. Villanueva, Ms. Saunders, Ms. Hilliard, Mr. Coffin, and Ms. Sellers.

    In Ms. Villanueva's class, we made balloon cars out of STEM materials. IN Ms. Saunders' class, we made masks with traits about ourselves written on them. In Ms. Hilliard's class, you learn about the different ways you learn by rotating through stations. In Mr. Coffin's class, you learn about compromising by going through different situations and choosing one of 2 options. Last but not least, in Ms. Sellers class you make mini mosaics to combine into a big mural for Sacred Heart School.
