Summer 1

We continued our celebrations on the field with a visit from the ice cream van!! We really really loved our ice creams with sprinkles and sauce!

We have been very busy celebrating Elmer Day! As part of the celebration, we were able to come to school dressed in our favourite clothes to show how we are all different and like different things.

We celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee with a picnic on the field which we thoroughly enjoyed! 

We have been exploring colour mixing this week. Using our prior knowledge, we know that when we mix yellow and blue paint together it makes green. We explored what happens when we add more yellow to our mix and how we get a lighter shade of green.

I am Cinderella, it is a story from a long time ago. Maisie

This half term we have been learning a range of songs linked to the story of 'The Elves and the Shoemaker'. We have listened to and joined in with a chant called 'One pair of shoes' and took part in an echoing song called 'Midnight'. We discovered how to play shakers and the importance of keeping a beat. We also sung a song called&nbsp;Presents for the Elves&nbsp;which is sung to the tune of&nbsp;The farmer’s in his den. We used our listening skills to listen to a contemporary piece of music with exciting darting rhythms. The children imagined they were the elves from the story and explored the music by scampering around, leaping and jumping in all directions as the music darts about. Waving friendly greetings to each other as they meet. Sometimes standing still to pretend to hammer the soles onto the shoes, using a fist to beat on the other palm.

Hydrated is when you drink lots of water. Charley

As part of our PSED curriculum, we have been learning about why it is important to stay hydrated and how we can do this.

When it is hot and sunny you need to drink lots of water to keep you hydrated. Louie

This term we are really lucky to have a dance teacher called Maria to be working with us. Each Reception class are learning a different dance which we will then perform to one another. We are loving our dance which is called 'Winter Walk' and we are learning about the four dance components. They are action, dynamics, space and relationships.

Our class caterpillars have enjoyed eating lots of food and building cocoons. We have watched them grow and become butterflies!

We have a special cape which the children can wear when they write a 'Super Sentence'. This is to promote correct letter formation alongside the application of phonic knowledge. We are loving the sentences the children are writing!

As our bean grows and changes each week, we have been making observational drawings and writing sentences about what is happening. Here are some of our diaries...

We have been developing our observational drawing skills by drawing a picture of The Queen who will soon celebrate her Jubilee. We looked closely at picture of the Queen from the past and the present. We chatted about how the Queen has changed and looked closely at the detail of her face. We then held our pencils correctly to draw a portrait of the Queen.

This term we are learning about Special Books and The Bible. We looked at different Bibles from a long time ago and we discovered that they are a 'source' of information from the past. We compared them to 'newer' Bibles and how they are different to a child's Bible which is more colourful and has pictures.

We have been investigating different types of beans just like in our story 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. We looked closely at each type and described how they felt. We predicted what they might grow into and we will be observing what happens over the next few weeks.
