Quin: A look at my art in Maker

For this picture, I made my name into block letters and decorated the background. To do this, I used 3 layers. The first one was just a pure blue background to go under everything. The second one had my name and a plan for the top layer. On the top layer, I put different designs that I thought were cool in each corner, and then using an 50% opaque airbrush, I added an almost rainbowy effect. My favourite part of this piece is the green pixelated effect I added in the bottom right corner.

For this piece, I wanted to recreate an emoji, and I instantly knew I had to do this one! 🤯 I used multiple layers, one for the background, one for the face, one for the hole in the head, one for the lava coming out, one for the smoke and broken pieces, and finally one for the shadows.

About the Author Quin is thirteen years old and lives in Vancouver, Canada. This book is a grade 8 school project in which Quin learned a lot about Sketches Pro, and is now sharing his work with you! He is in a program called PLP in which he uses an IPad for almost all of his learning.

When I made this picture, I wanted to make a robot out of simple shapes. I started with the general body and shape using common shapes like squares, circles, triangles, and rectangles, before adding details with stars, octagons, and semi-circles. I made his mouth out of a bunch of triangles to try and make him look angry. The colours I chose were pretty random, to be honest, but I like how it turned out. On this one, I particularly like how I used stars as eyes.

This was another piece I made with random lines with symmetry mode in Sketches Pro. I decided not to give this one a background because I liked the all-yellow colour scheme. Adding a yellow background would just make a yellow square.

In Sketches Pro, you can hide layers, so I hid the background and the plan/name layers and this is what remained.

This is an idea for a logo I might have if I had a company. The first step was to decide my company’s name and purpose. I decided to be a company that builds <a href="https://www.nbc.com/american-ninja-warrior">Ninja Warrior</a> obstacles for people’s backyards. The name? Quinja Construction! QC being my initials and my company’s initials, I wanted to include both letters. I made the whole thing a big black Q and put a small orange C in the middle. I don’t really know what the red and blue in the middle is for, but I thought it looked super cool. The ninja with a hammer is a secondary logo, like Nike for example. Nike’s primary logo is the swoosh, but their secondary logo is a wordmark. My secondary logo added the type of ninja most people think of first before <a href="https://www.americanninjawarriornation.com">ANW</a>.

This piece was my first experience using the symmetry lines in Sketches Pro. I was just drawing random blue lines before I added a second layer with an airbrush effect and noticed that I accidentally unknowingly added white lines aswell. I thought it looked super cool and I left it at that.

This is another piece I made with the symmetry mode. But instead of drawing lines for this one, I drew shapes with the fill tool, so everything inside of the shape becomes the chosen colour. I thought the colours and shapes make this look quite royal and ring was the best alliterative word I could think of.
