How the snake got its venom
Whilst the world was still new, all the animals were busy building habitats and exploring the surrounding area, including Snake. As well as exploring, many animals hunted and ate well. However, Snake, who loved hunting even though he always failed, found himself starving.

Early one Wednesday morning, Snake, who had been crushing bugs with his razor-sharp teeth, spotted a Hyena dozing off in the shade. As silent as a mouse, Snake slithered through the grass, his mouth watering at the thought of this meal.

Just as he was about to take a bite, he heard the Hyena start to laugh. Confused, shocked, speechless, Snake could only watch as the Hyena hurtled away, cackling, “Slowcoach, you’re a slowcoach, you can’t catch me!”

Later that day, Snake sighted a Vulture perched vacantly on a rock. Sparring no speed, Snake bolted towards Vulture, landing a bite on its feathered wing. Yet he still couldn’t catch any food! As the bird of prey flew away, it squawked in a scrutinizing tone, “Slowcoach, you’re a slowcoach, you can’t catch me!”

One day later, as Snake was wallowing in his misery and hunger, he noticed a monkey nonchalantly picking berries.

This time, Snake was as stealthy as a ninja, his brown, scaly skin blending in to the dead plants around him. He sprang up, but when he chomped down, he tasted the juice of the berry rather than the flesh of the monkey.

In his mouth, poison seeped out of the berries.

Unbeknownst to Snake, the venom was absorbed into his fangs. Lunging in again, he felt his jaws sink into the monkey soft flesh. Monkey, light brown in colour, fell to the floor in a convulsing heap.

From that point to this, most snakes use venom to catch their pray. Every single day, thanks to that one berry, snakes can eat a generous meal. Forever more, snake will be respected and known as one of the most fear-striking and deadly animals there is.
