Seems easy, right? Well, unfortunately, it is very difficult for a lactose intolerant person to break down lactose.

Genes are located on chromosomes, through the sequence of nucleotides on a DNA strand.

Ribosomes build proteins out of amino acids, which are carried by tRNA.

Luckily, lactose intolerant people can take lactase supplements which better their ability to break down milk. Lactase-free products can also be consumed in place of dairy.

Mutations happen in the genes/DNA when changes occur in the nitrogen bases. This results in different amino acids being produced, which affects the proteins. In this case, the lactase protein cannot break down lactose well.
