At first, the dutch came to the Middle Colony for fur trading. But the English wanted the area for new trading trading routes. In 1664, the British captured the colony and England's king gave the land to his brother, the Duke of York.

One way Farmers made money was from growing tobacco,vegetables,wheat,and corn. Another way people made money was from mining, lumbering, sailing, trapping, and merchants. Some workers were indentured servants, or African slaves.

Geography
The Middle colonies are very cold in the winter and summer is very hot. The Middle colonies also have better farming than New England colonies. The Middle colonies have very deep water. The Middle colonies also have lots of Iron. Also there are long growing seasons in the valleys and along the coast.
Farmer
The Middle colonies have better soil than the Southern colonies and better farming than the New England colonies. Also, in the Southern colonies there are deadly misquotes.
Power
The colonists didn't have power in New York's government. Governors appointed by the king were controlled by England, and the governor appointed other officials and enforced laws.
