Tujuan utama dari teks laporan atau report text adalah untuk menginformasikan fungsi khusus atau informasi detail suatu objek.
Ciri-Ciri dari Report Text
1. Teks berisikan dengan berbagai macam fakta ilmiah
2. Judul teks lebih umum ataupun tidak detail

Unsur Kebahasaan ( Language Features) Report Text
Unsur kebahasaan yang terdapat dalam teks report antara lain:
1. Menggunakan Simple Present Tense, ditandai dengan penggunaan to be: is/am/are. Selain itu juga penggunaan Verb 1 (kata kerja 1).
2. Menggunakan Action Verbs (kata kerja tindakan), misalnya: Travel, Defend, Live, dan sebagainya.
3. Menggunakan General Nouns (Kata benda umum), contohnya: The northern hemisphere, The beaches, dan lain-lain
4. Menggunakan Technical Terms (istilah teknis),
misalnya: Migrate, Pup, Herds, dan sebagainya.

Struktur Report Text (Generic structure)
1. General Classification
General classification atau klasifikasi umum adalah bagian struktur report text yang berisi pengelompokan umum dari objek yang dibicarakan. Bagian ini biasanya berisi informasi dasar dari objek tersebut, misalnya jika report text-nya membahas tentang hewan, pengelompokkan umumnya dapat meliputi nama ilmiahnya, jenis makanannya, dan hal atau aspek yang paling dikenal dari objek tersebut.
2. Description
Description atau deskripsi adalah bagian struktur report text yang berisi penggambaran dari objek yang dibicarakan secara lebih rinci. Misalnya, fisik dan fungsinya, habitat, dan lama masa hidupnya.

Cat
Cats or as we usually called it as the domestic cat are four-legged carnivorous mammal. Their latin name is Felis catus or Felis silvestris catus. The domestication of cats is believed to have started since ancient Egypt 9,500 years ago. Since that, cats have become humans companion. Nowadays it is the most popular pet in the world and also the second most popular pet in the US and they are often called as the house cats. It is believed that there are more than 70 cat breeds now in the world.
Most cats are furry, only some of them such as Sphynx cat born with less fur on their body. Some cats have a long tail and some others have a short tail. It also has a very flexible body and sharp claws which can be retracted. Usually cats can grow up to 4 to 5 kg in weight and 23 to 25 cm in length, but sometimes it can be smaller or grow even bigger. Their eyes allow them to see in the dark and their ears allow them to hear sound with a high frequency that human could not hear. They are a good solitary hunters who have a really good sense of smell. There are various colors of cats in the world such as white, brown, grey, black, stripes and even multi color. They are a social species and they can make various sound such as Mewing, Purring, Hissing and Growling.

Buffalo are big, strong, dark-coloured mammals with huge horns. African buffalo live in herds of several hundreds-usually near water,as they love to wallow in mud. African buffalo have very bad tempers, so humans have never managed to tame them.
Water buffalo are found in the wetter areas of Asia. Few are found in the wild now and they are mostly kept as farm animals. Water buffalo have been domesticated for 3.000 years. They are used to pull carts and ploughs, but they can be kept for thir meat, milk, and hides. Only a few survive in the wild in Asia, but buffalo are released to run free in the swamps of the Northern Territory of australia.
