Welcome to Marsden Primary School’s Behaviour for Learning booklet. Within this booklet, you will read about our approaches to learning, school expectations and routines. At Marsden learning is at the centre of all we do and the learners and staff collaborate to build learning power. As learners, we are actively involved in the process of learning by recalling prior learning, feelings, strategies and considering the process of learning. Our classrooms are safe, inclusive environments in which to learn, take risks and make Fantastic Mistakes. Everyone is valued and accepted.
Our Vision:
At Marsden, we aim to create a supportive, inclusive community in which everyone collaborates and thinks with a Growth Mindset. Through accessing a deep and enriched bespoke curriculum all learners maximise individual strengths in order to develop lifelong skills, knowledge and vocabulary that will enable them to flourish as well-rounded, independent citizens.
We will achieve this by living out our mission

Our Mission:
As adults we will: Guide, nurture and inspire all learners to be the best they can be through developing a desire for learning and a goal to be successful.
As learners we will: Strengthen our Growth Mindset by embracing and developing our skills, knowledge and vocabulary through engaging actively and collaboratively with all learning through our curriculum. On our learning journey we will also develop habits of mind (Learning Powers). We will achieve this through being proactive and respectful towards our learning, behaviours and the way we treat and interact with others. We will demonstrate pride in ourselves, our school and our community.

Learning Powers
At Marsden, we have created our own Marsden Learning Powers that are displayed in each classroom and around school. These are used daily in a Spit Screen approach in lessons. The LO and Learning Power is of equal importance. These Learning Powers were generated and designed by all of the learners at Marsden, ideas were shared and developed in half termly Learning Sprints and an illustrator helped bring our thoughts to life.

Moves & Blockers to our learning
Here are some of the things that can support or stop our learning.

The Learning Powers represent different Protected Characteristics. The Learning Powers are Collaboration, Imagination, Empathy, Perseverance, Curiosity, Questioning, Motivation, Imitation and Reflection. In each classroom we have Learning Power certificates that are given out by learners after ‘spotting’ the use of a focus Learning Power. These certificates can be given out in all areas of the curriculum by any learner, sometimes ‘spotters’ are chosen. In the Friday Celebration Assembly, the ‘Learner of the Week Certificate’ is linked to an identified Power. The Learning Council has monitored that a variation of vocabulary is used for each power in each class to maintain interest.
Learning Partners & Group Work (LP Board/agreement)
When we are learning at Marsden, we work collaboratively. We do this by learning with our Learning Partners or in a group. In each class, we have our Class Contract and Learning Partner success criteria.
We must all:
-listen to each other’s ideas
-give positive feedback
-show good listening skills by facing your partner or group
-give eye contact to your partner or group
-respect other people’s opinions
-listen to what other learners are saying
