Above you can see two videos that explains how Yugolsavia split and how this long time conflicts an wars went.
The serbian soldiers wanted to take back the places where the serbs lived - „Where there are Serbs, Serbia should be“ was the sentence of Milosevic (president of Serbia and Yugoslavia) that basically started the fights and motivated them to keep going.
Years ago in 1989 Slobodan Milosevic hold a discourse, where he talked about a „future dispute“, which could also be warlike - so he said. Two Years later the Yugolsav War started...
It began with with the declaration of independence - first in Slovenia and then in Croatia. - Slobodan Milosevic did not accept the split without a fight.
The first War took place in Slovenia were the JNA (serbian millitary) tried to get control of the border crossings in Slovenia - „where there are Serbs, Serbia should be“. This war brought them 64 dead after just nine days. - This Slovenian War is also called „the 10 days war“.
The second war was in Croatia. It started in July 1991: He instructed the serbian army stationed in Croatia to violently crush the independence movement - and so the so called „openend war“ in Croatia started. The JNA wanted to „take back“ the places and borders that belong to Serbia here too.
This War ended in a truce in January 1992.
The third and for that time the last War took place in Bosnia in April 1992, where they violently wanted to take back the country here too, according to the independence and recognition of the EU. Time passed and the War between the Serbs and the Muslims+Croatian became the fight between the Croatian and Muslims in Bosnia.
Hundreds of thousands of people died in this war.
In February 1994 the NATO intervened und and shot down Serbian planes.
On 12/14/1995 Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia signed a peace treaty in Dayton - the Yugoslav War paused at that time - before the Kosovo War started...
