3rd grade students recently learned about Porquois Tales. Pourquoi tales are old legends told to explain why certain events happened. These tales often start in the past, (ex. A long, long time ago) and end when a creative explanation is given for how a specific trait came to be. Porquois tales most often concern animals and the natural world.
After taking time to research animals who are native to Massachusetts and surrounding areas, students set off to write their own. Following the research phase, first drafts were written in journals, followed by peer and teacher editing. Students then typed up the next draft into a Google doc. Finally, they used Book Creator to transfer, illustrate, and in many cases, narrate their stories.
