About: Brit Bennett:

Born and raised in Southern California, Brit Bennett graduated from Stanford University and later earned her MFA in fiction at the University of Michigan where she won a Hopwood Award for short fiction as well as the 2014 Hurston/Wright Award for College Writers. She is a National Book Award 5 Under 55 honoree, and her debut novel, The Mothers, was a New York Times bestseller. Her essays have been featured in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, the Paris Review and Jezebel.

He is an award winning poet and is a professor of Creative Writing at Howard University. Featured in the documentary, Sheer Good Fortune: Celebrating Toni Morrison, Medina was awarded both the Langston Hughes Society Award and the First American Voices Literary Award.
