Charlotte's Journey

Brady lives in Collierville, TN. He enjoys playing with toys, eating, swimming, and chasing soccer balls. He loves to cuddle!

Charlotte slowly walks home, feeling sad and lonely. As she enters her house, her cousins rush toward her! Seeing her tears, they hug her. She explains the situation while her cousins listen closely.

Her older cousin, Hayleigh, takes a leash out of her pocket, and clips it on to Brady’s collar. Charlotte and her cousins join hands to start the long journey home.

Charlotte starts to feel discouraged as she tells about Brady running into the street. Her cousin, Hayleigh, points out that he has his collar on, and someone will eventually find him. Charlotte felt a little better knowing that eventually her dog will return home, but that’s not good enough. Charlotte soon realizes that she is going to find Brady no matter what!

Feeling relieved, Charlotte approaches her dog, wraps him in a hug, and squeezes him tightly.

As they reach her house, Charlotte feels an arm wrap behind her. Soon, she’s in the center of a group hug. Charlotte knows that no matter what, she will have her family, her puppy, and her friends to help her through any tough situation.

My name is Hayleigh Kuznitz, and I am in 6th grade. I live in Collierville, TN, with my sister, two brothers, parents, and puppy. I enjoy reading, yoga, and playing volleyball. This is my first book that will be published. While writing this book, I've learned that perseverance and hard work pay off! I've also learned that having friends who are willing to edit and read your book are some of the most valuable friends you can ever have! I wrote this book for younger girls. I hope to inspire them to see that when working with a team, you can accomplish anything! In Greek Mythology, we find a theme reminding us that even during hard times, you have to pick yourself up to achieve a goal. This theme threads throughout "Charlotte's Journey," too!

One day, Charlotte opens the door to get the mail. As she steps outside, her puppy, Brady, rushes out the front door onto the street. Charlotte sprints after him, trying to keep up. A car passes by, and Brady’s gone.

As they walk alongside a field of grass and weeds, Charlotte suddenly sees a blur of gold. She points it out to her cousins. Charlotte slowly walks toward the blur, and Brady’s head pops up.

Charlotte and her cousins pull on their jackets, grab hands, and set off to find the puppy.

Charlotte and her cousins make a plan to find the puppy, mapping out possible locations. Charlotte decides to visit the gas station near her house first.

After they’ve crossed the street to get to the gas station, Charlotte approaches a woman. “Excuse me, ma’am,” Charlotte says. "By any chance, have you seen a golden retriever puppy run by?” The woman replies, “As a matter of fact, yes, I have.” She points Charlotte in the right direction, and, after thanking her, Charlotte and her cousins continue on their way to find Brady.

Charlotte feels like the luckiest girl in the universe. She has the best parents, the sweetest little sister, the cutest baby brother, and the most adorable puppy ever!
