The seas are rough, the quill rolls side to side on my wooden table. I looked at my map trying to see which routes would take us to India. The thrill of the race makes all of this better, Portugal is no match against me and my boats. Tomorrow morning we will reach land according to my map and compass.

The seas are calmer this morning and I can feel the ship softly sway. Relief washed over me as we approached the islands off of the coast of India. To my surprise there were people on the island and they wanted to trade. They had things like spices, fabrics, and wool balls which they traded with us for gold and other items. The Indigenous people are called the Taino. The night is clear like the water surrounding us and excitement bubbled up inside of me for the next day. For we have landed on the island of Hispañiola.

This morning I observed the people as they work and a thought came to me. These people would make excellent slaves. Grinning, I went to go get food.
