This multi-touch book is a compilation of the inquiry research that Grade 8 students at Westsyde Secondary School in Kamloops, B.C. did. Students in Grade 8 are “learning to learn.” They have been learning high school research skills and how to present their learning in an electronic book form.

How horses evolved

It took about 55million years for the present family of horses,asses and zebras to evolve from their earliest horse like ancestor.Horses were originally called Eohippus or “dawn horses.”the first picture on the top is a two toed dawn and the the second one is a three toed dawn.

The history of horses

Horses came from the Ukraine,where people lived by herding horses and cattle on the grass steppes 6,000 years ago.Horses were also used in the war for holding the weapons and riding for their speed.Horses were discovered in the 19th century in North America and Europe.For many years the dawn horse was believed to be the first horse.The DNA evidence is consistent with the theory that horses were domesticated in many different regions of the world rather than just one area.

My main question what are horses used for and why?

Horses are used for transporting people from place to place,town to town. And it still happens today but people use them for riding and for fun.They were used for helping farmers with their food.People have used selective breeding to make bigger horses to do heavier work.Horses can be found working with people in a variety of places.

Horses feet and how they work

Some horses get lame which is when horses eat so much grass and their feet hurt really bad.Horses feet are built a little weird,the triangle part in called the frog and the foot is called a hoove.

Some horses have horse shoes on their hooves that just means that it is protecting the hoove just like we use shoes to protect our feet.Horses feet continue to grow in size until your horse is 6 years old.

Jumping

Jumping is an Equestrian(English) sport.Their is other things called Hunter jumper,Jumper they are another type of jumping but more competitive.I do the Hunter Jumper,it is a course where you have to memories the course without using the sheet while riding,you can’t use the sheet while riding anyways.Their are different types of jumps some of them are water jump (where their is water under the jump)

The most easiest and Difficult

The most easiest thing on my project was getting the information and getting the pictures.The most difficult was trying to find the websites I used because I didn’t write most of them down on my paper.This project was a little challenging but it was fun.I have had a good experience with this project.
