Meaning: A bother, an annoyance.

Example: The baby is a pain in the neck.

Meaning: Not able to see well beacuse of very bad eyesight.

Example: Your grandfather tripped beacuse he is blind as a bat.

Meaning: To talk openly and directly.

Meaning: Realistic, sensible, practical.

Example: He is down to earth, because is very realistic.

Meaning: Someone always wants to know about other people's private lives.

Example: She meddles in the lives of others, she is a busybody.

Meaning: Someone very selfish and careless driver.

Example: Yesterday my brother behaved like a road hog.

Meaning: Is someone with lots of modern ideas, energy and enthusiasm and who achieves a lot while still young.

Example: The child is shy, he is a whiz kid.
A BIG SHOT
Meaning: Is a very important or influential person.

Example: A politician is a big shot.
A GATECRASHER
Meaning: Turns up at parties without being invited to them.

Example: He is homeless and a gatecrasher.
PICK UP
Meaning: an improvement, as in health, business conditions, work, production, etc.

Example: He picked the phone up and dialled.
WRITE DOWN
Meaning: Someone writes something on a piece of paper.

Example: As soon as I have an idea, I write it down.
PUT ON
Meaning: to cover a part of your body with a piece of clothing or jewellery so that you are wearing it.

Example: He put your coat on because the weather was cold.
