Year 7 Science Books

Mistry thought she would pursue a profession in dietetics at first, but she eventually developed a passion for microbiology. At the University of Sydney, she earned a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Microbiology in 2007.

She later went on to do her PhD in medicine at Macquarie University, where her research was focused on identifying and characterising lipids related to breast cancer that are present in hair.

The cooper union was the first school that Nina went to that we know of. She also went to the university of Rome in 2003 Massachusetts Institute of Techin 2004 and Columbia university in 2009.

May took her mother's advice and soon enrolled in the University of Olso in the early 1980s. She struggled for a while to decide what she wanted to study, but that soon changed when she started hanging around with another student, Edvard Moser.

Marie Curie went to The University of Paris she studied there for 6 years. (1891- 1897)

She didn’t like living away from her family and was homesick when she was at the University of Paris, but she soon met her husband in 1894.

Laura Deming is in a family of 4 with her, her mother Tabitha, father John, and brother Trey. Laura seemed to be very close to her grandparents. Her family always supported her studies even though she was always the youngest in the lab. 

Katherine Freese is a 65-year old woman who studies a branch of space science that applies the laws of physics and chemistry to seek to understand the universe and our places in it.

Lovelace died on November 10, 1852, more than a hundred years before her notes were rediscovered. But because of her advanced way of thinking, she’s often considered the first computer programmer. In fact, in 1979, the U.S. Department of Defence named a new computer language “Ada” in her honour.

In 1907, she was given the Order of Merit for saving so many lives and reducing death rates, especially during the war. Throughout the years, twenty-five outstanding nurses from 18 countries have been awarded the Florence Nightingale Medal, which&nbsp;is recognized to be awarded for exceptional bravery and devotion to saving victims' lives.

Bournemouth is where she grew up when she turned 1 her father got her a stuffed toy chimpanzee which inspired her future work. Laura Deming was home schooled, she was very bright for a young girl, teaching herself french literature and calculus probability and statistics. When she was 8 she began to be interested in biology and when she was 12 she joined a lab at The University of California.

Jennifer started to develop her research on the gene editing tool C.R.I.S.P.R, which has helped many people develop immunity to cancer and other illnesses. She changed the course of science, chemistry and DNA, earning herself a nobel prize in all her efforts.

Katherine Freese is currently a&nbsp;professor of physics at the University of Texas at Austin, where she holds the Jeff and Gail Kodosky Endowed Chair in Physics.

Katherine Johnson was an American mathematician, and was one of the first black females to be engineers at NASA. She was also the inspiration for the movie 'Hidden Figures', made in 2016.

On the 10th of May 1900, Cecilia Payne was born. Raised by her single mother in Buckinghamshire, England with her two other younger siblings.

In 1997, Mayer graduated from Stanford University. She had studies computer science and symbolic systems. She had always been interested in computers and designing websites, so she knew what she wanted to do in the future.

In 1999, she received a B.S degree, which is a Bachelor of Science, and an M.S degree, Master of Science.

On August 26th, 1918, Katherine Johnson, entered the world. She was well-known to be a prodigy, a wunderkind, this was evident for her as she loved to count! She would count like there was no tomorrow, she would count from the amount of steps she took to the amount of forks, knives and spoons she would wash. At the tender age of 10, she had been accepted into high school and later graduated at 15, she was then enrolled into college where she graduated at 18 with a degree in Mathematics and French.

Jennifer received the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her breakthrough research on CRISPR technologyr. Jennifer Doudna was a molecular biologist at the University of California at Berkeley

In 1962, NASA prepared for a big space launch, and Katherine was called upon for very important work. NASA didn't trust their computers, as they had repeatedly let the company down. 

During the pre-flight test, the company's manager asked Katherine to run through the calculations that the computers had programmed. The launch was a success! All thanks to Katherine's double checking!

In 1953, when she was 36 years old, Katherine was hired by NASA- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

This person's name is Sasha Airel Altson.

She is a STEM Activest, Author and the best selling children's book Called, 'Sasha Savvy Loves To Code.

And then she provided some very important math calculations for the 1958 document notes on space technology.  And in this time NACA turned into NASA.

These exciting things that Katherine learned when she was 15 made her determined to learn more&nbsp;physics, and she ended up majoring in physics in college. Katherine went very young, at 16, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in physics from Princeton University at the age of 20.

and in 1929 she graduated with a bachelor of mathematics. Dorothy loved teaching maths to people so she her first job at Robert Russa Morton high school to teach maths.

Growing up, Katherine had two older brothers, Horace, born around 1912 and Charles, born around 1915. She also had an older sister called Margaret, who was born around 1913. 

When she was 18, she enrolled in the college altogether. She graduated with the highest honors in French and Mathematics.

Chien Shiung Wu was an icon of her research field, so much, she was named the Chinese Marie Curie. The research she contributed to the Science community was very well received. She investigated beta decay, researched radioactivity alongside nuclear particles. Chein also had an important role in the Manhattan project, helping the process for separating uranium metal into U-235 and U-238 isotopes.

A few years later, her husband fell ill, and to support her family she started teaching again. Then, at age 34 she saw that NACA was hiring women to be 'human computers'.

Jennifer first went to Ponoma College and later on Harvard. There she earned a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, and began her successful career in science.

Florence is a big person in STEM because she helped many people from dying. 

Sara has many occupations from being a university teacher to being a planetary scientist, and an astronomer at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

Sara Seager OC was born on the 21st of July, 1971, in Toronto, Canada.

She is well known for the fact that she is the youngest girl to pass A-level computing. At age 20 she received a master Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science form the University of Oxford, which started of her career.

She is an Engineer and Mathematician. She is the host of the Women Tech Charge podcast for the Evening Standard. In the podcast she conducts interviews with famous people in tech. She has done interviews with Jack Dorsey, Rachel Riley, and Lewis Hamilton.

After graduating, Maria moved to America with her husband Joseph Edward Mayer who was a professor. But while she was in America, she had trouble finding a job. But in the end, she never gave up and was employed to work at a lab. They asked her to help them work on nuclear physics, even though she had little knowledge about nuclear. But nuclear physics would have a huge impact on her life.

On May 1820 in Florence Italy, Florence Nightingale was born. She would grow up to become a nurse and a future genius who created some of the world's first pie charts. 

She had loved to learn about all of the different formations of stars and the different galaxies.

Marie Curie is a world famous physicist, who discovered the elements radium and polonium, and she has had a huge contribution to finding cancer treatments.

On 7 November 1867 Maria Salomea Skłodowska, famously known as Marie Curie was born into a household of two instructors , with her mom being an educator at an all girls school and her dad an instructor and a biologist in Warsaw, Poland.

 Marie, called Manya by her family, was taught to read and write at a young age as both her parent were teachers. She was youngest of five children, she had three older sisters and a brother.

Now, Mayer renamed one of her own websites, Lumi Labs, to Sunshine (or Sunshine Contacts). She has three kids, Macallister Bogue (9) and twins, Marielle and Sylvana Bogue (both 6).

She has been happily married to Zachary Bogue since 2009 and he is a lawyer. He is also a co-founder and managing partner of DCVC (Data Collective).

&nbsp;because she was black every time she went to the bathroom she had to back to NACA and everyone looked at her weirdly and underestimated her.

Katharine Burr Blodgett was born in Schenectady, New York.

Jane went to school at uplands private school at the age of 11. When she turned 12, she started up a club called the alligator club, with her sister and 2 best friends. She made a magazine and organized the club’s activities.

Katherine would help make flight paths for spaceships for NASA.

Katherine retired in 1986, after working at Langley for 33 years! She was then awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama in 2015, America's highest civilian honour! Katherine died in 2020 but her work is still remembered around the globe.

Katherine Johnson was born in 1918 and grew up in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

After university, her life had settled down a bit, she took a job as a school teacher, as she felt teaching others was her passion and calling. But her career in teaching didn’t last long, as when she got married and had a few kids she decided to quit. She worked in many places from being a staff member at Columbia University in 1946 as well as a professor at Princeton, in 1957. She was actually Princeton's first female professor. Some jobs she participated in was the Manhattan project.

Katherine had taken her job very seriously, she would attend meetings (keep in mind the only people that would attend these sort of meetings were men, but she had changed that), in 1960, she was acknowledged and credited as the first women to be the author of a research report of the Flight Research Division. She assisted John Glenn's flight to space by creating a safe flight path, through her maths calculations.

She grew up in a place called Walthamstow in East London and loved her childhood, She explored things that she was interested in a lot. Growing up where she did, she learned to take what she gets and enjoy them as she lived on very little.

Anne-Marie Imafidon is the eldest of five children. Both of her parents emigrated to England more than 30 years ago. Her father Chris Imafidon is an Ophthalmologist and her mother Ann Imafidon is a Linguist. Her parents taught her and her siblings that nothing was impossible and always encouraged them to be curious about the world around them.

Emmy Noether was certified to teach English and French in schools for girls in 1900, but she instead chose to study mathematics at the University of Erlangen. She went to the university of Erlangen-Nuremberg, she attended this university for 3 years (1904 - 1907). She also went to the university of Göttingen for a year (1903 - 1904). 

Maria Winkelmann was born on February 25th 1670 in the city of Pantisch, in the Holy Roman Empire.

In 1954, she was asked to work at a hospital during the Crimean War. She worked 20 hours a day cleaning the hospital she was stationed at and aiding the wounded soldiers during the war. The hospitals back then were filthy, with blood, feces, and rats on the floor. Sometimes, the patients would have to lie down on the floor because there were no beds. Florence Nightingale and her companions cleaned all of it up, and was called ‘The Lady With The Lamp’ because she always kept a lamp with her.

Florence was able to help many people who needed it. It gave her joy sending them home happier and healthier.

Every night, Florence would talk through the hospital holding a lamp. She would check up on all of her patients. This is why she was known as the lady with the lamp.

In 1985, Sara Seager attends Jarvis College Institute, in Toronto, Canada.

Apart from working on her other projects, she determined The Apollo 11's flight path, the mission with the first people on the moon!

Babbage never received enough funding to complete the Analytical Engine, and Lovelace’s notes were forgotten. 

But in 1953, her notes were republished in a book about digital computing that showed how computers work by following patterns. It turns out that long before the first computer was invented, Lovelace had come up with the idea for a computer language.

And as she grew up she became fascinated in the work natural sciences leading her to join the&nbsp; <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newnham_College,_Cambridge">Newnham College, Cambridge</a>.

She worked in Physical chemistry and X-ray crystallography and In the year of 1941 she proudly graduated the college with a degree in natural sciences. 

Hedy Lamarr is an only child but she lived with her Mother and Father Emil Kiesler and Gertrud Kiesler. Her parents died in 1935 and 1977.

They discovered their shared passion for psychology.&nbsp;a year after they were hired by the University of Trondheim and started their lab there

Sara Seager is married to Charles Darrow with her two sons from Sara's first marriage. Her first husband, Michael Wevrick, passed away due to cancer in 2011.

Katherine Johnson, started university at West Virginia State University&nbsp; at the tender age of 15 and at 18 received a degree in both Mathematics and French, she found her Mathematics professor as a mentor and built her to become the type of person she is today (mainly in terms of her career).

Florence did not listen to her parents and went to train to become a nurse. 

A while after she trained to become a nurse, there was a war. Lots of people were getting sick and hurt, and needed help. So, Florence opened a hospital and helped take care of them.

Marie are curries childhood wasn't the best , her older sister died from typhus and then a few years later when she was 10 her mother died from tuberculosis this caused Marie to give up Catholicism the faith of her mum  .
