Helpful objects to use while examining scientific theories include:
-Thermometer
-Ice cube(s)
-Reusable/Paper cup
-Room temperature water

Experiment Idea 1: What will happen to an ice cube when placed in water?
*Before starting consider your own predictions, possibilities, why & how?
1. Place the ice in a paper cup
2. Add room temperature water
3. Place the thermometer in the water

4. Set a timer for 5 minutes and watch the ice cube with an observant eye.
5. Consider what processes are taking place and why?
6. Record key factors you noticed (temperature change, physical development etc).

Experiment Idea 2: Which material will best insulate the hot chocolate?
*Before starting discuss what the word 'insulate' means & brainstorm some synonyms and insulating materials*
1. Choose 3 different materials to test.



2. Fill your 3 cups with water of the same volume & temperature.



3. Place a thermometer in each cup and cover with your chosen
materials.
