Crespi d'Adda workers village We are in the province of Bergamo, along Adda river. In late 19th Century, Cristoforo Benigno Crespi built a village for his workers, where they could have every service they eventually needed: from spaciouse houses to school, from church to theater. His factory was and still is an outstanding example of workers villages that illuminated industrialists were building in Europe at the age. 8th grade students visited the village and took 3D pictures, then created a <a href="https://e3.eyespy360.com/#!/tours/35562">virtual tour</a> and a <a href="https://it.padlet.com/callonisara/crespidadda">padlet </a>on the subject.

Virtual Mobility Closing Ceremony As part of the closing ceremony of the virtual mobility, the Spanish students have watched some videos from Cyprus. It was emotional to see the beautiful landscape of Palodia and listened to the closing speech by the director of The Heritage Private School. The Spanish students have also introduced themselves on the forum in TwinSpace, as they wanted to dedicate some nice words to their friends from Italy, Croatia and Cyprus. They talked about their expercience and how special this virtual mobility was. Besides, they wanted to say that the Erasmus+ project as a whole has been an enriching and unforgettable adventure they will always remember! Thank you to all the people involved in the UNESCO Passport project. It has been a pleasure to participate in this different but special mobility!

Our "Mediterranean diet group" visited the olive oil mill on our island last weekend. We have found out that Spain is the largest producer of olive oil, followed by Italy and Greece. We have seen the whole process of making olive oil and the owner explained us the difference between the old and the new way of oil making. And the most important, we enjoyed the good food. Vanilla ice cream with olive oil was quite an interesting and tasty experience.

Mediterranean Diet was another topic which students researched during the project. They have noticed that food and food habits from ancient Greece and Cyprus to today are in a way the same. In addition, it is not only the food that remained the same, it is also the philosophy around it. Greeks believed in eating in moderation, being close to the land and share with others. Food had to be simple including wheat, wine olive oil, olives, vegetables, fish, grapes, figs and pomegranates.

UNESCO Passport - survey results

Students (especially members of the three project mobilities) from each partner school have participated in&nbsp;an online survey&nbsp;related to the project Erasmus+ “Unesco passport” through which we have been evaluating their&nbsp;knowledge on UNESCO and its heritage after almost two years of work on the project. &nbsp; The results can be&nbsp;compared to the results of the similar survey at the beginning of the project. The results show that our students&nbsp;have gained a significant amount of knowledge about their local UNESCO heritage, as well as their project partners' heritage.&nbsp; &nbsp; They show that the students have made&nbsp;progress in developing their digital and presentation skills. They have all confirmed that they have improved their English language skills. And&nbsp;they all want to participate in the similar projects in the future. &nbsp; &nbsp;

March 2019: Hvar, Croatia

The first mobility was to Hvar, Croatia. To arrive there students and teachers spent a day in Split, waiting for the boat which will take them there, and visited the city. In Hvar they have been involved in different workshops (herbalist, digital, lace making, netting the fish). When back home they realized a <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1K76TVmUB7-Z9XOdSW8AkzHOZMAAdRdh9/view?usp=sharing">short video</a> to sum up their experience.

Professor Z. Sansović and our students visited professor Joško Bracanović who gave them a lecture about the Holy Cross, that bled in Hvar in 1510. Proposes that there was a conspiracy to kill some noblemen because of the torture and mistreatment of the commoners and their women, and the oath was made up over this small crucifix. It was an event that not only distressed the people of Hvar, but also the whole island. Soon the news spread and all the people from the island went to the city of Hvar to see that wonder. The Procession - Following the Cross - and this event are closely related because it is one of the theories that this event has prompted this great and holy devotion to the Cross which continues to this day.

The legend of Breogan The Spanish students from 6th grade of Primary Education carried out an interesting research on the legends of Breogán (the national&nbsp;hero of Galicia) and Hércules, the famous Greek hero that is linked to our mythology. They worked in teams using their computers and they found significant information about these legends, which gave them a new vision of our past concerning myths and ancient stories. Once they gathered all the data, they chose one of the heroes, Breogán, in order to carry out a dramatization of the most important events of his life. In this way, the students learnt that&nbsp;Breogan&nbsp;was a Celtic leader who, having subjugated the warring tribes of Spain, fetched up at A Coruña, where he built a tower. This tower was later named the Tower of Hércules. Here you can see the play of the legend of Breogan, which was done by the students from 6th Grade of Primary Education. We hope you&nbsp;enjoy it!

Our national hero

Student mobility to Croatia was a great experience for both teachers and students. The hospitality was amazing and students met new friends there. They had workshops, visited places and learnt about the UNESCO sites of Hvar. Students were amazed with Stari Grad Plain.

Virtual Mobility Paphos Mosaic Workshop On the first day of this interesting virtual mobility, Spanish students from 6th grade of Primary Education have carried out a workshop on Paphos mosaics. First of all, they carefully listened to a presentation by one of the teachers from Cyprus, who explained them interesting facts about this form of art. Our students have learnt a lot: what mosaics are, where we can find them and their meaning and importance within the historical and cultural heritage. After that, the pupils did a research in order to do a worksheet. They investigated who the god Dionysus was and his importance in Greek and Cypriot culture. They also compared ancient architecture in Cyprus to the architecture of the castros, ancient fortifications and villages in Galicia, back in its Celtic past. They also put themselves in the shoes of a person from the 4th century, as they had to imagine and describe the daily life of citizens living in Paphos in that century. It was a fun and enriching activity because it made them think about how their lives would have been in a different period of history and a different culture. So we can say that they have learnt many things they did not know about Cypriot culture and they have spent a wonderful time doing this workshop!

Environmental Context of the Tower of Hercules Spanish students from 4th grade of Secondary Education have worked on an interesting investigation about the darkest part of one of our most emblematic monuments, considered World Heritage🌎: The Tower of Hercules.&nbsp; This activity consisted of searching for information about the environmental disasters that took place near this monument. Among them, we can highlight the following oil tankers 🛳 which crashed and poured high quantities of petroleum in the coast of Galicia: “Urquiola” in 1976, “Mar Egeo” in 1992 and “Prestige” in 2002.&nbsp; We expressed the most outstanding data derived from this investigation in a board, where you can see the definition of each disaster, its place and year, as well as its causes and consequences. 🌊 Thanks to this activity, students have known a little bit more of the history of this roman lighthouse so symbolic for Galician people.

A few children from our Erasmus+ team went to help with the grape harvesting in Tonči's family vineyard last Thursday. Grape cultivation has been a staple branch of the Dalmatian economy throughout history and, together with olive growing and fishing, it is the basis of the Mediterranean diet, typical of our area. Vines, unlike the olive trees, are very demanding and sensitive. In order to have a good crop, grape vines require a lot of care and effort throughout the whole year. The vine's fruit ripen between July and October, depending on the area and climate where they grow. On our island, the grape harvest usually begins towards the end of August or the beginning of September and is generally finished by the end of September. Grapes can be used fresh, dried and processed. The best known product of grapes is of course wine. There are about 300 indigenous varieties of vines, but red grapes of the variety “Plavac mali“ is the most important Dalmatian and Croatian kind. Our students, accompanied by Natalija Šćepanović, took part in harvesting white grape varieties (“pošip“, “bogdanuša“ and “maraština“) because these ripen early. Hvar's red grapes will still be ripening for a few more days in the September sunshine.

Initial Survey Students from 6th grade of Primary Education to 3rd of Secondary Education have taken an online test related to the Erasmus+ project “Unesco passport” through which we have been evaluating their previous knowledge about the topic.&nbsp; In the following graphs we show the number of answers of the students of each participating course as well as those that have been answered correctly. At the end of the project we will go back to the survey and it will be time to know how much our students have learned throughout this two-year experience!

The amazing thing was the fact that on a daily basis we do not see what is around us. We do not focus on the buildings and the area we live. Only through the project students were able to focus and learn so much more about their own town, Cyprus as well as the partner countries.

On 9th May we celebrated our "School Day". We organised the exhibition of children's art works. This year the theme of the works was "UNESCO on my island" which was also influenced by our project. We are grateful to all the teachers who prepared the exhibition.

Virtual Mobility Closing Ceremony 2 We created a video that summarises our impressions of these years being part of this Erasmus+ experience. The Spanish students of CPR San José started this journey back in 2018 and since then we have lived many adventures. We have made new friends. We have visited wonderful places. We have discovered new cultures. We have developed our cultural awareness and open-mindedness. We have improved our English skills. The pandemic has not stopped us. We have never given up! This year we are still working on this wonderful Erasmus project. It has been the experience of a lifetime! Thank you Croatia, Italy and Cyprus. We will never forget you!!

"Unesco passport" project experience

Paphos Mosaics The Spanish students in 2nd year of Secondary Education have had the opportunity to work with mosaics, an artistic expression that has brought colour to the walls and floors of Europe for thousands of years. Following the topic agreed with the partner countries, the students have produced their works with motifs from the animal and plant world. First of all, they made the sketch, choosing a beautiful design and an accurate colour range. Then, they used coloured cardboard to make the pieces. They pasted them on a black background, so that the artistic creation could achieve greater relevance and colour. They have enjoyed the activity so much. It has been really interesting and enriching and they have learnt a lot about the Paphos mosaics. You can see the results in these pictures. We hope you like them!

Students have visited the Neolithic Settlement of Choirokoitia which is one of the most important prehistoric sites in the eastern Mediterranean and under the protection of UNESCO. It represents the Aceramic Neolithic of Cyprus at its peak. Excavations have shown that the settlement consisted of circular houses built from mudbrick and stone with flat roofs. Students had to search for information and complete a worksheet consisting of 20 questions related to the topic.

Our Erasmus+ team gathered in our school for a workshop to create their own "lace" masterpieces. The group worked with fishermen's thread and wooden boards. Each piece of lace is completely unique and it can only be created with patience. The aim of this workshop is to encourage the students' creativity and to raise awareness about how important it is to preserve these amazing works of art for future generations. Our team have consequently realised how much creative effort is needed by the Benedictine nuns, to create the famous "Hvar Lace". Our famous agave lace was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2009.

A few students from our Erasmus+ team (accompanied by our headmistress Nada Jeličić) visited our local klapa group "Galešnik" for their regular rehearsal. They found out some facts about klapa singing. Klapa singing developed as a secular form of church singing and it is the result of people socialising -local workers and fishermen- in traditional taverns. In the not so distant past there was no Facebook or television, people were gathering in taverns, where after a modest snack of salty sardines and a glass of wine they used to start communal singing.

Over time, the Klapa way of singing became more and more harmonised, so as it developed, the rule became that the male Klapa consisted of four voices: two tenors, a baritone and bass. The first tenor is a very important voice, because he "story tells", carrying the song, but the other voices are also important, especially the bass, because they create a backdrop of musical ambience. For a true sound, a Klapa song requires mutual harmony, together with unity of desired sound and dynamics. Regular practice is obligatory but, primarily what is needed is a love of this kind of singing. Members of a klapa team must function as a group. They must know each other personally as well as vocally. There are three Klapa groups in Hvar, two male and one female. We hope that the traditional Klapa singing in our town will survive and flourish. It is for this reason that we need young people who will first learn all about Klapa singing and then learn to love it.

Sacred Mountains of Piemonte and Lombardy In Piedmontese and Lombardy area there are nine sacred mountains: all built between late 15th Century and early 18th Century, they bear witness to local devotion. 7th grade students worked ro realize short guides to The Sacred Mountains and realized a 3D model of our most dear Sacro Monte di Varese.

St. James Research Spanish students from 6th&nbsp;grade of Primary Education have carried out an interesting research task about the life of the Apostle Saint James. Since the cathedral, the Old City and the Camino de Santiago (Saint James Way) are considered World Heritage Sites, we wanted to pay tribute to Santiago el Mayor, who gives its name to the city, the great cathedral and the pilgrimage route. As information of interest, it should be noted that the first Galician landmark to be incorporated into the UNESCO World Heritage list was the historic center of Santiago de Compostela, in 1985. The cathedral stands out within its old town and it is one of the most visited places in Galicia. In addition, more than one hundred thousand people arrive in Compostela doing the Camino de Santiago (Saint James Way), the second Galician intangible cultural heritage declared World Heritage by UNESCO. In 1993 it was also registered as a traditional pilgrimage route. The students investigated about his life: when and where he was born, who his family was, when he became part of the group of twelve apostles who followed Jesus and how his remains ended up in the city that bears his name according to tradition.They created a book collecting the information. The aesthetic they used was that of medieval texts, so they used a medieval typeface and decorated the page with ornaments and borders which are characteristic of the manuscripts of the time.

With this project 15 students were supposed to be involved in three different mobilities: five for each one. In fact, in March 2019, five students from 7th grade went to Hvar, Croatia, while in October 2019 other five students from 8th grade went to Pontedeume, Spain. Unfortunately, the last mobility to Cyprus couldn't be done. Despite the difficulties due to the pandemic situation, nine students from 8th grade have been involved in a virtual mobility, that let them discover the island of our school partner and its beauty and Heritage. Moreover, Italy hosted thirteen international students from partner schools in May 2019 and guided them in the discovery of our territory and traditions.

The project UNESCO Passport is Erasmus + project. There are four partners in this project (Croatia, Italy, Cyprus and Spain). The aim of the project was to investigate our cultural heritage under the protection of UNESCO and share knowledge with other partners. We were motivated to start this project by the need to include teaching about cultural heritage into the educational process. One of our objectives was to create a digital UNESCO Passport that would integrate all processed content of each partner school.

Cypriot dances and traditional songs it was another area which the students explored. They learnt how to dance traditional dances and some songs. They researched Cyprus traditional costumes as well.

Troodos Churches Workshop The Spanish students of 4th grade of Secondary Education have learnt a lot about Troodos UNESCO churches. Troodos is a region in Cyprus which contains a large group of beautiful churches and monasteries from the Byzantine Empire. They were impressed by their beauty and magnificence. After watching an informative video provided by our Cypriot friends, the students began to make a 3D paper model. For that, they used some 2D templates that were put together to get a good result. First, they cut the template parts, then fold them along folding lines and use the extra flaps on template to glue parts together. The final step was to decorate them with different colours. The students have had a great time with these paper crafts, which made them develop their imagination and cultural awareness. Thank you once again, Cyprus! :)

Tower of Hercules Models Over the last few weeks, the Spanish students in 2nd year of Secondary Education have been working on the construction of a model of the Tower of Hercules, a task included within the Erasmus+ Project “UNESCO Passport”. As you may know, the Tower of Hercules, in A Coruña, is the oldest Roman lighthouse still in use nowadays. It is considered a national monument here in Spain and it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009. In spite of the fact that mobilities have been cancelled because of the current sanitary situation, we continue to work on the project. That is the reason why our students have carried out this interesting and creative activity. After a research on the most representative elements of the monument, they have made a recreation of it, using recycled materials, cardboard, etc. Here you have some images where you can see some examples. We have enjoyed this activity so much!

Virtual Mobility Limassol Castle Workshop the students from 1st grade of Secondary Education ESO did the workshop about Limassol Castle, the Knights and Commandaria. First, we learnt a lot about Limassol and Nicaria watching the video and we took some notes about the most important aspects. One thing that was very interesting for us was the fact that their history is connected to ours, as the King Richard married a Spanish woman in that same city: Berengaria of Navarre.&nbsp;Then, we did the worksheets, which were super creative and we had a lot of fun!

Longobards and their places of power 6th grade students focused on Castelseprio and Torba sites: this has been an important place where Longobards displayed and exerted their power. They created a 3Dmodel of the area using recycled material while 8th grade students created a <a href="https://e3.eyespy360.com/#!/tours/48143">virtual tour</a>.

In the middle of February our students (members of the UNESCO Passport project team) visited the village of Velo Grablje near Hvar. We were welcomed by Mr. Tomičić who gave us a short speech on how people lived there in not so distant past. We realised how important was the art of building drywalls that divided properties but also kept the fertile soil from being washed away. On 28th November 2018 UNESCO recognised the importance of preserving these stone drywalls and added the art of drywalls building to the list of intangible world heritage. We are very proud of that fact. The lecture was followed by a short workshop of building drywalls. Our students were fast learners so they built their first drywall along one of the village paths. There was a lot of joy, laughter and cooperation surrounding this activity.

It is also undeniable that teachers made possible the actual realization of the project. They joined their forces and created both strong national and international teams that worked and took decisions together in order to better the educational offer and let the project grow in the best possible way.

Lugo's Wall We have been investigating about the roman times in Lugo, concretely about the organisation of society in that period, the clothing of each social class and the pottery art that used to be there. Students of 3rd grade of Secondary Education did the first activity. They built 6 big boys and girls mannequins that represented the social classes in Lugo in roman times. They have also done an investigation, followed by an exposition about the clothing of the different roman social sector by teams: each one was in charge of a kind of clothing, and then they had to dress one of the mannequins. For that purpose, they made paper patterns and then, they cut them using different materials. After this activity, our students of 1st grade of Secondary Education, investigated about roman pottery, specifically about the Lugo´s one. They have learnt different techniques to work with clay and they represented some of the most used objects in that period.

Virtual mobility Cyprus was something different which was embraced with the same interest of learning. All workshops were done and interesting and all students learnt about the Paphos mosaics, the Limassol and Kolossi castles, the 10 churches of Troodos region, Aphrodite, Cypriot cuisine and Traditional Folk music.

31st October 2108, Hvar - our first meeting with parents. They saw the presentation about the project and we shared them leaflets with information about our partners' heritage.

On 16th October 2019 our students presented our project at the international symposium "Tourism and Culture in Philosophical Perspective" which was held in Hvar. They held a presentation in English about the function of culture in tourism.

After almost a year of Covid diffusion, in January 2021 teachers decided to replace the mobility to Cyprus with virtual activities to do at home under the instructions and suggestions given by Cyprus: they sent us videos and materials and Italian teachers coordinated the workshops. Unfortunately our school was closed at that time, so students were at home but met together via Classroom and Meet and worked together. First of all they discovered the Cypriot Heritage.

Celtic Nations The students from 7th Grade created a project framed within the Erasmus+ “UNESCO Passport” Project about Celtic Nations and their relationship with Galicia. To carry out this activity, they first made a brainstorm naming all those places that are considered part of the Celtic Nations. For this, they made an online research to identify all those regions they could work with. After that, the class was divided in four working groups, and each one chose one of the regions that interested them more to know about its celtic origins and its traditions, always looking to find some similarities with those festivities or customs that we have here in Galicia. The next step was doing a little research about the different nations: Brittany, Galicia, Scotland and Wales were chosen by each group. But we didn’t forget to also look for information about Ireland, Asturias, Isle of Man and Cornwall, that as we learnt, are also part of the Celtic Nations. As a class, but maintaining the safety distance at all times, all the members of the group created a Jamboard to present all they had found about each place.&nbsp; With this activity they learnt how to identify each location on a map (in which you can find a QR code to scan and see the presentations made by each working team). And they also learnt that, no matter the distance that separates one region to another, we can always find likeness to our own, Galicia.

Traditional Clothes Workshop Spanish students from 6th grade of Primary Education carried out a workshop on traditional Cypriot music, dance and clothing. Our friends from Cyprus had prepared an interesting presentation to explain important facts, which helped us understand the cultural and historical context of the island. The students learnt about the Greek origin of the word “music” and they discovered new musical instruments, such as the pithkiavlin and the tampuras, among others. They also learnt different types of traditional songs and dances, which in some way reminded them of Galician traditional dances and music. Thanks to this, they were aware of the common threads that link diverse cultures around the world. Besides, they listened to some examples of these Cypriot traditional songs and watched some videos about the dances. They were impressed by the dance of the water glasses. The workshop continued with an activity on Cypriot traditional costumes, which they really liked! First, they were given some templates that showed a man and a woman. They had to work on that template, creating the parts of the female and male costumes. For that, they used different materials, such as colour paper, cardboard and paper maché. Finally, they pasted those parts on the template, creating their own interpretation of the Cypriot clothing. In addition, Spanish students noticed the similarities between Cyprus and Galician traditional costumes: the patterns and colours, the beautiful garments and fabrics. We have more things in common than we thought! They had an amazing time!

Ravennate mosaics After discovering Paphos mosaics thanks to the material sent from Cyprus, 8th grade students did a search on the net to discover Ravenna city and its most significant buildings of byzantine era. They also deepened their knowledge on ravennate mosaics, realized a <a href="https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/15axO1Yp6RJYOfO3nDDXn3id7UR6Gpb5XqoE6OgRFpxo/edit?usp=sharing">Google presentation</a> and then chose a mosaic or a particular of it and recreated the pattern using the pages of old journals or magazines.

Students did many activities: they <a href="https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1AVExe-Mo3NtsDT75uCkm_CELzenj8Lbi4vZM94gls2s/edit?usp=sharing">presented themselves</a>, discovered Mnemosine activities, focused on preservation and digitization of the Heritage, studied Paphos mosaics, virtually visited Trodoos churches, Kolossi and Limassol castles, built <a href="https://read.bookcreator.com/d4ktcMzDAbcCfc1Zg2qfkV0EOuE3/OG6nYo3TS2m2RPQecE6RWA">3D models</a>, anlayzed Greek alphabet and <a href="https://www.canva.com/design/DAEZycb7mI4/f-qSBnRdNWHGpWAYcA7RPA/view?utm_content=DAEZycb7mI4&amp;utm_campaign=designshare&amp;utm_medium=link&amp;utm_source=sharebutton">wrote their names</a> in the ancient language, did <a href="https://www.jigsawplanet.com/?rc=play&amp;pid=399c4414c047">virtual puzzles</a>, created their own personal coat of arms, played games and realized <a href="https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1_r5kqb1O4ffAdimjSAshpPVTMu2tnXz6yLt3Bdit96k/edit?usp=sharing">collaborative Google presentation</a>. They also created a <a href="https://read.bookcreator.com/d4ktcMzDAbcCfc1Zg2qfkV0EOuE3/OG6nYo3TS2m2RPQecE6RWA">dictionary containing words or expressions</a> they learned in the meantime.

Students were interested about the art of mosaics. They studied and researched about mosaics and specifically about Paphos mosaics. They have been very creative in presenting their power points and making their own mosaics using technology or small pieces of colored paper.

Research on Christian Pilgrimages The Spanish students from 6th grade of Primary Education have done an activity that was part of the Erasmus+ project "UNESCO Passport". This time, in order to complement what they had previously learnt about the life of the Apostle Saint James and the different routes of the Camino de Santiago (The Way of Saint James), they carried out a complete investigation about the different pilgrimages of the Christian tradition. Through this, they have learnt interesting information about Jerusalem, Canterbury, Rome, Lourdes and Fatima. First, they collected data about the origins of these places, the time when the pilgrimages began, the outstanding monuments that can be seen along the routes and at the destination itself, and some curiosities, among other things.Once the information was compiled and verified, they created four different books, which also included photographs of the pilgrimages and sanctuaries. Falconry 6th grade students discovered Falconry, which is the art to hunt together with birds of prey. Emperor Federico II practiced it in the 13th Century: students dug deep in history to discover all the secret about Falconry, then visited "Falconieri del Feudo" and interacted with birds of prey, always in their respect. They also did crosswords and other games on the subject.

Kolossi Castle Workshop The Spanish students from 1st and 2nd grade of Secondary Education took part in an interesting workshop about Kolossi castle, which consisted of a research and the creation of a 3D paper model. First, they watched a presentation that helped them discover important information about the building, such as its history and architectural features. After watching it, they did a series of activities to prove all the things they had learnt. Then, they created an original 3D paper model of the castle. They had a really good time cutting, glueing and painting it! Have a look at the result!

Final survey results in Spain The Spanish students from 6th grade of Primary Education to 3rd of Secondary Education have taken an online test on Google forms related to the Erasmus+ project “UNESCO Passport” through which we have been evaluating the knowledge they have acquired during the implementation of this project. Here you can see the final results, which show some relevant changes concerning the previous survey. Thus, we can say that they have fulfilled the main aims of the project.

The first visit to the Stari Grad Plain

A few students from our Erasmus + team visited the Ager (our UNESCO protected field).  

They found out about the field form, its division in the past and they took some photos of  the field in autumn. After the visit they created interesting postcards and presentations using  the photos and videos that they have taken and recorded while visiting the field.

May 2019: hosting partners in Italy

Many have been the proposed workshops: students participated in <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/15n-rGYooDfuCQFEdW4-cKnWYQFvTCQPk/view?usp=sharing">a drama lesson</a> aiming to represent the adventures of Galdiano da Torba, realized the Girometta (a local, typical brad puppet lied to Sacro Monte di Varese devotion), did small fresco panels inspiring to Leonardo pieces of art, virtually visited Castelseprio and Crespi d'Adda village.

Archaeological discoveries Castelseprio was a roman civitas (= city) built to control trades and military expeditions beyond the Alps; it remained an important center in the medieval age, but it was destroyed by the winning VIsconti of Milan in 1287. In the area remained only ruins, apart from churches. Archaeologists re-discovered it from 1954, and even nowadays something new from the past appears. But...How can we dig an archaeological site? To discover techniques, instruments, methods, and also specific terms we set up a simulation with a true archaeologist, one of the teachers involved in the project. In tre classroom we digged in simulated archaeological levels, to find out which ancient treasures they could hidden. Using the right instruments, such as the trowel, and pointing out any founded U.S. (stratigraphic unit) or object And filling in also all the documentation requested (photos, drawings, quotas, descriptions) in a scientific excavation.

Way of St. James Project In order to put an end to the activities framed within the Erasmus + project "UNESCO Passport", the Spanish students from 6th&nbsp;grade of Primary Education have carried out a very interesting one on the different routes of the Camino de Santiago, the Way of Saint James. This coincides with the celebration of Xacobeo 2021, so it has been a very significant task. They designed a budget adapted to each of the routes they chose (English Way, French Way, Portuguese Way and North Way). In this way, they included information about the places to visit, the restaurants in which to eat to regain strength and the shelters in which to rest for 6 days. All this implied a detailed research task and a selection of the best options, which were first reflected in an Excel table. They even created their own route organization company, “Diversión entre vieiras” ("Fun among scallop shells"), with a logo of its own. They captured the final result in a scroll with medieval aesthetics, which included a map with the designed route, images of the important places through which it passes and symbols related to the Camino, such as the famous scallop shell or the cross of Santiago. The result is really good.

Students had the chance to walk and have a tour around Limassol and meet the old neighborhoods as well as the modern. They learnt about the history, the architecture and the way people used to live back then.

Wall of Lugo We have been investigating about the roman times in Lugo, concretely about the organisation of society in that period, the clothing of each social class and the pottery art that used to be there. Students of 3rd grade of Secondary Education did the first activity. They built 6 big boys and girls mannequins that represented the social classes in Lugo in roman times. They have also done an investigation, followed by an exposition about the clothing of the different roman social sector by teams: each one was in charge of a kind of clothing, and then they had to dress one of the mannequins. For that purpose, they made paper patterns and then, they cut them using different materials. After this activity, our students of 1st grade of Secondary Education investigated about roman pottery, specifically about the Lugo’s one. They have learnt different techniques to work with clay and they represented some of the most used objects in that period. We hope you like the results!!

The last supper and Leonardo da Vinci "The last supper" or "Cenacolo Vinciano" is one of the most known piece of art all over the world. It is also the first Italian place to be included in the Unesco World Heritage List in 1980. The painting gave to 7th grade students the occasion <a href="https://it.padlet.com/callonisara/leonardo">to study its creator</a> and to discover his genius. They worked hard to know everything about him and to realize some of his inventions or to propose new ones or, again, to remake his pieces of art in a modern and personal way.

They also created Leonardo puppets and realized a <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wBdp7IeI3014LLnng1MUh9pSLWjCvh9y/view?usp=sharing">short video giving instructions</a> on how to do it. Students also participated in a theatrical show.

Erasmus Day 2020 For the Erasmus Day our students worked on a few key words related to the project and Unesco Heritage. They chose, wrote, drew them. Then two short videos (<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/16-31HdKu2Ues7rCg-mf6B74RthDxhJlU/view?usp=sharing">video 1</a>, <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/15zLQlGimLsluSWarQj93_IEKbAFXt9Sl/view?usp=sharing">video 2</a>) were realized in order to share them with partners, that met online. Pupils also created a <a href="https://wordwall.net/play/5396/778/587">simple digital game</a> and sent it to fellow mates.

Music in the "Pórtico of Glory" Spanish students from 3rd grade of Secondary Education have carried out a research task about the most outstanding instruments of the Pórtico of Glory and other medieval instruments which are representative of the epoch. They have investigated about the lute, the viola, the medieval bagpipe and the psaltery, among others. The activity is directly related to the landmarks that today are considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, here in Galicia, Northern Spain. Since the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, the Old City and the Camino de Santiago (Way of Saint James) are elements of great importance when we talk about entities considered heritage in our country, everything that has to do with them is also important.This time, music was the protagonist of this part of the project. The students searched for information about the Codex Calixtino and the instruments with which people used to play beautiful melodies back in the Middle Ages. They used all the data which they had collected to create a book with medieval aesthetics, with descriptive texts and images made by hand.In order to&nbsp;get an old look on the paper they wrote on, they aged it with coffee and they also decorated some of the pages with ornaments that were typical in the documents of the time.Here you can see the final result. Today we visited Pitve, a village near Jelsa. Our students learned how to prepare traditional cakes "cviti" and "medenjaci". They also wrote the recipes for our cookbook.

Galician Heritage We have been doing the first group of activities of the project in our school. First of all, we began with the thinking routine "I see, I think, I wonder" using for that a picture of the wall of Lugo. After that, we did a brainstorming and we established the steps we must follow to create our timeline. Finally, using cooperative work, we have investigated about the wall's history, giving importance to its built, the historical conflicts of the city and its naming as UNESCO World Heritage.

The ancient city of Paphos in Cyprus was once the capital of the island during the Greco-Roman period. During its time, the city had some of the finest villas in the Eastern Mediterranean belonging to Roman governors and rich noblemen. The mosaics date from the end of the 2nd century AD. Our Cypriot partners have prepared a video and presentation about the Paphos mosaics, as well as instructions on how to make mosaics. Our task was to make mosaics ourselves. Of course, instead of using small pieces of stones, we decided to use paper. We did some research and found out that we have beautiful figural mosaics within the Church of St John in Stari Grad. The mosaics probably date from the 6th century. The mosaic that we tried to recreate (with some artistic freedom) using the paper is in a shape of a circle with “kantharos“ and 2 birds drinking water in the middle. In this way, we have tried to encourage our students' interest to know more about our island heritage and we hope that these activities will ensure the project sustainability in the future.

Our mobility to Italy was great. The students had the opportunity to meet with their friends and continue the trip in the Erasmus +  world by learning about the UNESCO sites there. They have participated in workshops and visited places such as Sacro Monte di Varese and Monastero di Torba.

Our students Antun Visković and Laura Buzolić presented our project UNESCO Passport at the international festival Taste the Mediterranean. The festival is a unique event aiming to promote the Mediterranean Diet. It is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, the Croatian Commission for UNESCO.

Mediterranean diet 6th grade students discovered base ingredients of the Mediterranean diet, which every partner school shares with us. Then created billboards on the subject and a padlet to collect recipes of a few local specialities. Later, 7th grade students involved in the first mobility to Croatia worked with partners to create a <a href="https://www.canva.com/design/DADsgxCWDxM/zbZxPXjTip149wCbVrKfRQ/view?utm_content=DADsgxCWDxM&amp;utm_campaign=designshare&amp;utm_medium=link&amp;utm_source=sharebutton">Canva dedicated to traditional recipes</a>. When in Spain, students tasted food from other partner countries, while during the last, virtual mobility, they cooked Cypriot recipes following advises from fellow mates: <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MKdZy63ZydnqCnE_0leuGniJ9xeTJahQ/view?usp=sharing">you can watch our video</a>.

A visit to Lefkara village were the students experienced the Lace and Silversmith art. The crafts of lace and silver have been practiced in the village since Venetian times. A legend has it that Leonardo da Vinci visited Lefkara in 1481 and bought a lace altar cloth which he donated to the cathedral of Milan. The village is very picturesque with narrow streets and traditional architecture of old terracotta-roofed houses. Students had the opportunity to visit and listen to the mayor, interview local people, visit the Lefkara handicraft Center. The 'lefkaritiko' is part of the UNESCO World Intangible Heritage since 2009.

CYPRUS Our Erasmus + UNESCO Passport Experience

They also visited Hvar and its castle, small streets and theatre, Velo Grabljie, Stari Grad, participating in a holy procession.

The Stari Grad Plain was the subject of interest for a group of students from the Elementary School of Hvar who are included in the Erasmus+ project. The group started preparing the material for the booklet in cooperation with the Agency for Management of Stari Grad's Plain. After several visits to the plain and more than 2000 photos taken, the group (together with their mentors Ms Katija Barbić and Mr Vinko Tarbušković) chose the material for the photo booklet and the photo exhibition. The significant title and the photos of Hvar Elementary School students present the plain with all its characteristics throughout the whole year. The presentation of the photo book and the exhibition were held in the exhibition space of the Hvar's Arsenal building from 27th July to 3rd August 2020. The profit raised from the sale of the photo book will be donated to “Prijatelji malog doma“, association from Varaždin which takes care of children in Africa.

Students went to a silversmith factory/shop where they saw how silver is used to produce traditional handicrafts. The craft of silversmith started in the 18th century and is still growing popular nowadays.

Cypriot Cuisine Workshop On the sixth workshop of this virtual mobility the Spanish students from 4th of ESO learnt about Cypriot Cuisine and their traditional products.&nbsp; First, they carefully watched and listened to a Presentation made by our Cypriot friends. During this presentation they learnt about many different and interesting local products that are used to cook Cypriot dishes of all sorts. Furthermore, they have learnt that our cuisine and Cyprus cuisine are, in some way, nothing alike. But by watching some videos and learning more about their gastronomy and culture they could identify some similarities in our Mediterranean gastronomy as well.&nbsp; After watching the videos all the students made a Venn Diagram to picture all the differences and similarities they could find among both cuisines. Then, they made another shared Venn Diagram with all their ideas.&nbsp; Finally, we played the Kahoot on the topic of Cypriot Cuisine. Sure it was difficult to remember all those (delicious!) dishes but they had a lot of fun! They ended up learning a lot about Cypriot culture and traditions and spent a fantastic morning with this workshop.

ACTIVITIES AT HOME and SIMULATIONS

Many activities have been done in these years, particularly at the beginning: then, the pandemic situation has made difficult to regularly carry on the assets. Students studied Unesco and its purposes, Longobards and archaeological excavations, Ravennate mosaics, Leonardo da Vinci, Sacred mountains, workers villages, Mediterranean diet and Falconry, then offered their knowledge to partners during the mobility in our country and participated in workshops especially dedicated to these subjects with them.

Relationship and citizenship awareness

It is undeniable that the project gave the chance to students to grow in many ways: they became more responsible, particularly in regard to the World Heritage and to the cultural richness of their territory; they also became more conscious of their local traditions but, in the mean time, they understood to be part of a bigger reality, a European and international one. Students had also the opportunity to create and consolidate strong ties with fellow mates: mobilities created friendships that still go on. During our mobility to La Curuna, Spain, students were excited to see all these monuments and learn more about them during the workshops. The Hercules Tower and the Cathedral de Lugo are two of the places we have visited.

In October 2019 our students, accompanied by Mrs Natalija Šćepanović, visited the family Bracanović Meier who own a goat farm. This time, as part of our Mediterranean diet research, they wanted to find out how goat cheese is made. The hardworking family members showed them the process of making cheese, as well as ice cream made of goat milk. They also offered them to try some very tasty cheese.

In may it was our turn to host partners. During this mobilities students visited a few places inscribed in the Unesco Heritage List: Cenacolo Vinciano and the city of Milan, Sacro Monte di Varese, Castelseprio and Torba.

Throughout this time the students involved researched various aspects of cultural heritage, both tangible and intangible. Various activities and field trips have taken place. Students explored the meaning of cultural heritage and became familiar with the different places in Cyprus that are under the umbrella of UNESCO world heritage.

The 10 Troodos monuments under the protection of UNESCO was a topic of big interest for the students. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage list are the ten monuments of the former Byzantine empire that we can meet in the Troodos mountain region. Students have studied, researched and created a time scale where they included accordingly each church/monastery in the respective century. This time scale is between 11th-16th century. They have also created power points and presented their outcomes.

Online Meetings We have resumed the activities of our Erasmus+ project "UNESCO Passport", which had to be postponed due to the pandemic. Luckily, we had the opportunity to celebrate “Erasmus Day” on the 16th of October. In order to commemorate this day, the Spanish students in 1st year of Secondary Education had a Zoom meeting with our friends from Croatia and Cyprus. They were able to greet them and chat for a while. Italy could not participate, but they sent us a very cool video! After greeting each other, we sang the song “If You Are Happy and You Know It” in the different languages. Afterwards, the Croatian students introduced us to several words related to our heritage and we also pronounced them in all the languages in the Erasmus+ project. Finally, we cheerfully bid farewell to our friends.

Our Erasmus + UNESCO Passport trip started 3 years ago. It was a great trip in history and culture of our island. On the way, we had the opportunity to learn about other UNESCO sites in Croatia, Italy and Spain. We all gain knowledge and made new friends. A big thank you to all.

October 2019: Pontedeume, Spain

Students did many activities in the hosting school too: they sang traditional Italian songs for international mates, created celtic jewelry, modeled Lugo walls or the Hercules tower, tasted mediterranean food, visited Pontedeume with the guide of Spanish partners. When back home, they realized a <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oIcZp6KaJOFQEFfKYECRZMOFZDyD_HTS/view?usp=sharing">Google presentation</a> to sum up their experience.

Students have studied the use and importance of herbs in the Cypriot cuisine as well as how Cypriot sweets are made. They explored different cooking methods and it was a creative session.

INSIDE SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA CATHEDRAL: RESEARCH ON ITS ARCHITECTURE AND ART As part of the Erasmus+ Project “UNESCO Passport”, the Spanish students have carried out an interesting research on the architecture and art of Santiago de Compostela Cathedral.&nbsp; The current sanitary situation did not stop them from working in this activity about one of the most important landmarks in Galicia. As you might know, the cathedral is considered to be the burial place of&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James,_son_of_Zebedee">Saint James the Great</a>, the apostle of&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_Christ">Jesus Christ</a>. It is also one of the only three known churches in the world built over the tomb of an apostle. Nowadays, the Old Town in Santiago is considered a World Heritage site in Spain. Santiago de Compostela Cathedral has historically been a place of&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilgrimage">pilgrimage</a>&nbsp;on the&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Way_of_St._James">Way of Saint James</a>&nbsp;since the&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_Middle_Ages">Early Middle Ages</a>&nbsp;and marks the traditional end of the&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_pilgrimage">pilgrimage</a>&nbsp;route. The cathedral has a Romanesque structure, with later Gothic and Baroque additions.&nbsp; The Spanish students have&nbsp;approached the Romanesque and Gothic architecture and art, trying to visualize and exemplify the most remarkable differences between both styles. In the first part of the work, the students made a series of posters in which they explained the architectural particularities, focusing on the arches, buttresses, windows, rose windows and the various ways of representing religious scenes in painting and sculpture inside the cathedral. With all this information they had to catalog a series of photographs in order to identify features from both styles. The last part consisted of creating original murals, albums or presentations based on 18 photographs that had to be imitated, or in Polaroid format. Their creations show beautiful images, including&nbsp;the Pórtico da Gloria, an early work of&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanesque_sculpture">Romanesque sculpture</a>, created by&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_Mateo">Master Mateo</a>&nbsp;in 1188.

UNESCO Passport

Initial Survey At the beginning of our adventure, students undertook an online test related to the main topic of our poject: Unesco and World Heritage. They answered simple questions that prompted their curiosity on the subject, permitting them to proceed with great enthusiasm. Here you can see a part of the survey.

On 21st May 2021, students taking part to the virtual mobility received the certificate of participation sent by Cyprus and were congratulateded by our Major, our Headmaster and the teachers involved in the project. They also presented their 3D models of cypriot byzantine churches and medieval castles in a little exhibition in the hall of our school.

All in all, the students confessed how grateful they are that they were given the opportunity to participate in the Erasmus + UNESCO Passport project. They now know more about UNESCO and UNESCO monuments not only in Cyprus but also in the countries that they have visited. They made new friends and they have experienced the hospitality in its out most. They learnt about other cultures, history and traditions whilst visiting places and researching. They have broaden their horizons and their way of thinking as they found new ways of studying and approaching a topic. Finally, they definitely developed new skills and they would like to participate in another Erasmus + project in the future...

The mobility to Spain has been great: students and teachers have been welcomed in Pontedeume, a small city near the river Deume, in Galicia. They visited Lugo with its roman walls, A Coruna and the tower of Hercules, Santiago de Compostela and its cathedral. Here students have been involved in a treasure hunt.

Our students visited the Benedictine monastery and learned all about the agave lace.&nbsp;This art is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Virtual Mobility Aphrodite Workshop On the third day of the virtual mobility in which we are immersed, the students from 6th grade of Primary Education have participated in a workshop on Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty and part of the pantheon of Greek gods. In order to know a little bit more about this, the students created an infographic which included some pictures of the Olympian gods. They have learnt a lot, as they had to research what their role was within Greek mythology. In addition, our friends from Cyprus had prepared an interesting PowerPoint presentation with information about Aphrodite, which the students watched carefully to be able to do a series of activities that put their research skills to the test. They were really interested in the myth of Eris and the Apple of Discord, that can be related to the Troyan War. The investigation let them know Paris, Helen and Achilles. And they also had to spot the cities of Troy and Sparta on the map. This workshop has been a fascinating journey through Greek mythology and history and the Spanish students have had a wonderful time discovering new things and amazing stories. Thank you, Cyprus! :)
