TEACH LIKE A PIRATE
Part One - Teach Like a Pirate
Song - Everything's Coming Up Roses
Bett Midler
Gypsy - 2008 Broadway Cast
I selected this song because it involves change, which can be difficult and scary. Many teachers are set in their ways related to their teaching methods and creating an empowering classroom environment. They might fear stepping out of their comfort zone to create what Dave Burgess calls "A Learning Extravaganza." These teachers will need encouragement from co-workers and the support of their administrators to take this leap. The lyrics and theme of the song Everything's Coming Up Roses can be a positive affirmation to a teacher who fears trying something new. Below are several lyrics from the song that support my selection.

You'll be swell! You'll be great!
Gonna have the whole world on the plate!
Starting here, starting now,
honey, everything's coming up roses!

You can do it, all you need is a hand.
We can do it, Mama is gonna see to it!
Curtain up! Light the lights!
We got nothing to hit but the heights!
