"Response" means hearing from you. What are you learning, how are you learning it, and - maybe most importantly - how do I KNOW that you've learned it?

By research, I don't mean you have to hit the databases to find new sources.* I simply mean that you need to find the facts, quotes, examples, and data that will support your claim. You need to use this information in your essay and CITE IT (no plagiarism bombs!). In addition to your F451 book, any of the articles on Actively Learn can serve as sources. I have added 6 articles which, while not required, might help with your research process. Gather this research into one place by taking notes on the relevant information. Remember: put textual evidence into your own words as much as possible. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP. Trust me on this.

Remember, the most effective essay makes sure to address the opposing point of view. As you get ready to write your essay, identify the counterclaim to your claim. Write it out. It will make writing your essay so much easier!

Use your writer's notebooks to help you remember all the parts of a narrative arc. Only include the events that lead one to another (remember the dominoes?) Remember that the Climax must directly address the Inciting Incident.

Revising a paper is about making sure your ideas are clear. Remember, this is a PERSUASIVE paper. Have you used logos, pathos, ethos to convince your reader that your model is the best one? I highly recommend that you have another person read your rough draft, and afterward, ask them these questions:

--What was this essay about? --What am I trying to persuade you is the right thing for school in the fall? (What is my claim?) --Did I convince you that my idea is the right one? (What evidence supports my claim?) --Did I make sure to debunk any other possible answers? (What is my counterclaim?)

If you haven't kept up with Membean, COMPLETE AT LEAST 60 MINUTES to prepare for the exam.

And clauses. And combining sentences. This is where ALL of those grammar exercise worksheets come in. Study, study, study. Make flashcards, work with friends.

Pull out those writer's notebooks and make sure you know definitions of these words as well as how to identify them in someone's writing.
