The purpose of this book is to learn more about the 2022-2023 Gateway Nominees. These nominees span a variety of genres and interest levels. For each title, we have print copies available in the library and eBooks and audiobooks available on Sora.
Tips for Reading the Book
1) You can listen to all the text within the book. See the screenshot. Click the gear icon in the top right corner to adjust your preferences. Then click READ to me. If you have another langauge setting on your Chromebook, it will show up as an option when listening to this book.

In 1935, young Alex Maki of Bainbridge Island, Washington, is horrified to discover that his new pen pal, Charlie Levy of Paris, France, is a girl, but in spite of his reluctance, their letters continue over the the years and they fight for their friendship even as Charlie endures the Nazi occupation and Alex leaves his family in an internment camp and joins the Army.
