paper cups

thermometer
ice cubes

sheets of felt

tin foil
How we carried out the experiment
- Firstly we revised examples of what insulators were and watched videos about insulators and conductors
- We divided ourselves into groups and chose our equipment for the experiment
- We put the ice cubes into the paper cup and picked which one would be our control.
- After choosing the control cup we then began to use our equipment to attempt to insulate the other cup.
- For the experiment cup, we wrapped the ice cubes in tinfoil first, we then wrapped this with cotton wool and finally wrapped the felt all around the cotton wool inside the cup.
- We placed the thermometers into both cups and took the initial readings.
- We took a reading of the thermometer every three minutes after this and continued until the experiment had ended.
- We took our final readings and came to the conclusion that the control cup was actually melting slower than the non-control cup.

Results
After carrying out the experiment we came to the conclusion that the control cup had melted slower. We thought that we had over insulated the experiment cup and it was too warm for the ice to stay frozen solid. During every reading the experiment cup was around three degrees warmer than the control, this may have been due to incorrect methods of insulating the cup or due to external factors e.g. the room temperature
