These are some of the books we've made during our monthly Twitter chats.

It’s time to visit your kitchen, garage, office, bathroom, basement or backyard. Find something that could be used to model your challenging concept and take a picture or video of it. Create a page with your image or video and explain why you chose that visual and how you’ll use it to teach your concept.

These are digital versions... but an Etch-a-Sketch makes for a great tool to model continuous functions and a Lite Brite is perfect for discrete functions!

This makes me think of the scale of numbers... and how challenging it can be to understand 10x larger, for example.

Chemical energy inside person transferred to kinetic!

Kinetic energy from brake on the tire to thermal energy! Hot!

Kinetic energy from person pedaling to kinetic energy of bike!

Kinetic energy from tires on the ground to sound and thermal energy. You can hear the bike wheel on the ground, and it will be warm after awhile!

-Create cones with Play-Doh -Cut to model a circle, ellipse, parabola, and hyperbola

Rock On! One form of Energy can transfer into many other forms of energy. There may even be more than what i say!

Let’s help each other. Add a concept or topic &nbsp;to the top of a page. Then, visit other pages and add photos or sketches of tangible, concrete objects that may be used to model that concept.

First, give students an simple and easy assignment so they feel proud and sure in their ability. Then...

Try some more difficult assignments and give student choice in what they cover. This will boost interest and help them be more motivated and encouraged to try! 

Boil tea to show the change from liquid to gas

Almost any toys can be used for fractions!!

I think that I would evaluate my students interest to tailor the toys to their interest in order to better engage them! I would maybe have different stations that would allow me to reach more students interest.

Measuring cups are a great way to show how important fractions are in everyday life!

Oranges are a great, fun, and engaging way to show students how fractions are needed to share with friends!!

Also!! You can use a ruler to show the practical use of adding fractions and help them to see the correlation. or!!! colored goldfish! This is a great way to connect adding fractions and sets!

Number lines are so....flat! For our classmates with visual impairments, let’s help bring them to life. Let’s all work together and see what we can create!

-Use Minifigures for counting. -Use Stop-Motion Animation to capture the counting of each object.

I really, really LOVE using LEGO for fractions.  The dots (what are those called, anyway?) make the 'value' of the bricks visible.

Sadly, my Keynote GIF doesn't work here. But I'm all about models and manipulatives.

Set up a fake crime scene with evidence and clues. Have learners use their detective skills to infer who committed the crime based on the evidence! Perfect introduction - you can't infer beyond the evidence!

Let students free write about a favorite topic- encourage them to bounce ideas off each other and to be as silly and creative as possible! 

Now let them act out their short stories or illustrate them with markers and paper or on an app (like Book Creator!). Students will enjoy expressing themselves and will be inspired and boosted by the works of their peers!

Look around at people around you.&#160; What do we have in common?&#160; How are we different?

-Cut a certain length of rope and measure. -Tie knots of approximately the same size. -Collect data (rope length) after each knot is tied. -Plot points on a graph (or use Desmos which can be embedded into Book Creator). -Model the relationship with an algebraic function.

How would you sell this challenging topic to your class? Share a page in Book Creator with your sales pitch (use an audio file for an added bonus!).

I loved using shoe box houses to explore circuits with students. Fun lego integration too!

It’s time to think about toys. What toy(s) can be used to model your challenging concept or topic? Think creatively! Create a page with your image or video and explain why you chose that toy. 

Make sure students know each other and feel comfortable in the classroom! This is a great get-to-know you game!

There are so many other resources and toys to choose from to encourage students in lessons. Since i love to read, i'll use an abundance of books as an example. Let students get excited and exercise their independence by exploring the library!

I would approach adding fractions by showing how EXCITED I am to teach fractions!

I would bring out many manipulatives and fun activities to help understand and visualize. 

I would play a fun game like cover up or uncover!

Still struggling to infer? Have a one sided, fake conversation and have learners eavesdrop and infer the conversation, then practice with each other! Love moving this to texts and "redacted" texts, too - which can even practice context clues.

I love this as an illustration for interpolation and extrapolation in mathematics

I wonder if I could present a problem but make it seem unrelated to the lesson or class? Something truly real world.&#160; We might not find the solution since we May not have all the tools yet, but I wonder if their ideas would give them some more confidence to keep trying other methods presented to them.&#160;&#160;

For each characteristic that you have, you were given an allele from mom and one from dad. This shows each parent with their two possible alleles to give to offspring.

Using Legos to show allele combinations and the random nature of getting these combinations might be a great idea!

It sounds kinda lame but...awareness.&#160; Systems of equations is one of the most common application of mathematics! I want that light bulb more than anything

I'd encourage kids to find their own examples of disproportionality in real life and collect the images to spark more mathematical discourse in the classroom.

So... I'm a big fan of Bitmojis and love these that show disproportionate scale. 

Legos would be a great way to physically represent a number line!

The perfect lesson would start off with an engaging activity that would probably involve food!!!

The lesson would dive into adding fractions using Manipulatives. 

I would wrap up the lesson with a game or activity that was fun and enjoyable for all students and that related fractions to the real world! The perfect game would involve a way for students to get creative with their response. 

What would a perfect lesson for this challenging topic look like? Create a page in the shared library showing this. Be creative.

I'm sitting in a coffee shop but I imagine we could come up with all kinds of two variable systems to start with! How long until I have to make more coffee? How much money do I need to make on a slow day to break even? Maybe we could make a small business model?

Given starting place and speed we can calculate when the cars would tie, or how long the race would have to be for the slower car to still win.&#160; #vroomvroom I also bet that an activity with kites could be pretty fantastic. Its a little variable with the wind so it may not be the best but I'd love to explore it!&#160;

What you know + evidence = inference! Practice with pictures and videos first, then move into text based inferences. It's like a puzzle!

We can use books to create markers in a number line. 1 book on one. Two books on 2, etc.
