Editor note:

This book was published in 2018. While a lot of the ideas are still relevant, most of the examples come from 2013 to 2017, when the Book Creator for iPad app was much more prevalent.

We suggest you check out our new resource, published in May 2023 - The Book Creator Toolkit for Schools & Districts.

Welcome
Foreword
Book Creator launched on iPad in September 2011. More than 6 years later the app is still going strong, used in classrooms all across the world in a variety of different subjects. And with the launch of our Chrome web app in 2017, we hope students will continue to benefit from using Book Creator.

We love seeing how creative teachers and students can be when using Book Creator. We’re lucky that many teachers over the years have shared their tips, ideas and lesson plans as case studies on our blog.

This book brings together those ideas in one place, so you can browse through them and hopefully be inspired. Thank you to all the teachers who’ve contributed.

We’ve started off with 50 ways to use Book Creator, but we’re certain there’s a lot more than that! If you’ve got a great idea and want to share it with others, please contact us!

Happy book making.

'About me' books
Kick off the school year by building classroom community and culture with this fun task

Now that Book Creator is available for iOS and Chrome, teachers can harness its power on any device! Imagine setting up a station with a single iPad, Chromebook, or even desktop during the first week of school and then personally engaging with every student as you co-create a page to introduce them to the class.

With younger students, this might be a first introduction to technology; and with
older students, it could afford you the opportunity to make a personal connection through a shared activity.

Another option might be to create ‘Who Am I?’ books to kick off the year.

Given the capability to insert audio and video in addition to static images or text into books, all students have the capacity to then share their identity with Book Creator.
Armed with Book Creator, how might students capture voices in their community and share them?
