The Dream
of a
Dreamer
Today at school we talked about the idea of the American dream.

According to Mrs. Jenkins, our teacher, The American dream has different meanings for different people.

She told us that our homework was to figure out what the American Dream is to you. As I walked home from school I started to think about what the American Dream is.
When I got home I saw grandmama sitting in her rocking chair. So I decided that I should ask her what the american dream means to her.

"The American Dream to me means fairness and equal justice for all. To0 bad Lady liberty is blind"

What in the world is she talking about?
So I went to the kitchen to ask mama what the American dream meant to her. Maybe she could give me a better idea. When I got into the kitchen I saw mama making dinner.
"Mama what is the American dream?"

"Well honey the American dream to me means freedom of choice and not being casted out for doing something that everyone doesn't do. That's the beauty of America, we embrace our differences. It reminds me of a story I read called the Pedestrian." That confused me even more! What did a pedestrian have to do with the American dream?
So I went out back to look for my dad. He was so smart and I knew for certain he would have the answer. When I went to the backyard, I saw my dad sitting down looking up at the stars. I sat down beside him.
"Dad what is the American Dream?"
"Richard the American dream can be many things to different people but to me the American dream means freedom and being able to do what we want to do. I see your face is still confused, but maybe one day you'll understand what I mean"
The more people I asked the more confused I became on what the American Dream actually was. I still had no idea what I was gonna present to my class tomorrow. I was so desperate I even asked my baby sister, Mandy. Of course it was useless.

"Richie Richie!" She replied with a toothless grin. I was better off going to bed.

That was my last thought before my eyes drifted shut.
