It’s really important that we think about how we develop a positive maths mindset. Some of us already enjoy maths but some of us don’t. We should ALL love maths! ��

a maths person?

One of the biggest mistakes we can ever make is to say we are no good at maths! It's simply not true - everyone can be good at maths.

Our brains are amazing and have these things called neurons that allow it to keep on growing. Every time we make a mistake we actually fie up these neurons and they grow bigger. Our brain really does get bigger! ��

Maths gives us so many chances to use our brain and help it grow. We have to remember that mistakes are good and remember that they actually help our brain grow more than when we get everything right.

If we want to think positively about maths we need to know it's ok to make a mistake.

We need to ask lots of questions and we need to talk about how we might work things out.

Most importantly - we need to have fun!

Did you know that the geoboard was invented by mathematician Caleb Gattegno (1911-1988) as a manipulative tool for teaching elementary geometry in schools?

Geoboards can be used in so many different ways!
You can create maths shapes, letters, numbers, and even pieces of art - simply by the way you use the bands.

If you multiply 6 by an even number, the answer will end with the same digit that multiplied by.
The number in the ten's place will be half of the number in the one's place.
Example: 6 x 4 = 24.

There are so many awesome things that happen when we start to work with numbers.

Looking for patterns can really help us to have fun with maths.
