Acceleration is proportional to force and inversely proportional to mass

In Newton's second law, there is the equation F=ma, which means force equals mass times acceleration. A concept that can be derived from this equation is acceleration is proportional to force and inversely proportional to mass. In simpler terms, as force increases, acceleration increases, and as mass increases, acceleration decreases.

Olivia: Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643, in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England.&#160;He made many discoveries, including the three Laws of Motion. He was one the most influential scientists in history. Sir Isaac Newton made an impact on the way we discuss science. He was knighted by the Queen of England, which is why his name is Sir Isaac Newton. He also discovered many things in mathematics and made discoveries in calculus. Sir Isaac Newton will be known as one of the most famous scientists in history. He passed away on March 31, 1727, in Kensington, London, United Kingdom.

Elyse- He put all of his research into two major books. One was called Principia, which had the motion and gravity, and the other was named Opticks, which had to do with his discoveries with light. He spent most of his early years with his grandmother while his mother remarried.

Bea: Isaac Newton discovered most laws of physics except for energy. He was also a mathematician and helped other scientists. He was a great mind of the seventeenth century. Isaac Newton also published his own book, titled Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy. Isaac Newton wrote this book and it was also published because of his outstanding work. His book also explained the laws of physics explaining each law of gravity. He was knighted by Queen Anne of England, which made him Sir Isaac Newton.

Through the Eyes of a New Driver- Newton's Second Law

One of the first things you have to learn as a new driver is how to control speed. When going downhill, your car will move at a faster acceleration than if you are moving on a flat road. Putting the car in forward drive will create a positive acceleration, and putting the car in reverse makes a negative acceleration. The bigger the car you drive, the more fuel it needs to begin moving.

Larger Force=Larger Acceleration

As previously stated, Newton&#8217;s Second Law talks about force and how to find it (F=ma). In this section, you will learn about what affects force and how force relates to acceleration. -Acceleration, which is is the rate at which motion changes, depends on the steepness of the plane it is positioned on, force, and the object&#8217;s mass. -If there is a gradual incline, the acceleration of an object will be smaller. If there is a steep incline, the acceleration will be greater. The factor that most affects steepness is gravity and the object's mass. -The stronger net force of an object, the greater its acceleration. -If an object has a lot of mass, it takes more force to push that thing forward. If the mass of an object doubles, then its acceleration will be half if the same force is applied. This means that the acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net applied force and inversely proportional to the mass. -Net force is the sum of all forces acting upon that object.

Description of Newton's Second Law- Object's acceleration- made when an unbalanced force acts upon it and the acceleration depends on two things: 1. net force- total of all of the forces acting upon an object 2. mass of an object. So, the acceleration of an object will increase if the object has a higher net force, but the object's acceleration will decrease if its mass is higher.

This law is referred to as the law of inertia. It states that an object in motion will stay in motion and an object at rest stays at rest ,unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

Unbalanced force- A force of any sort that changes the motion of an object at any speed by collision.

Balance forces-&#160;are two&#160;forces&#160;acting in opposite directions on an object, and equal in size.

In this video, a volleyball is thrown into the air. The volleyball travels at a constant speed until another volleyball collides with the first one and changes the direction and speed of the first volleyball and itself.

Force - a push or pull that affects an object&#8217;s state of motion

Now, you must be wondering, what is force? Force is a push or a pull or any other kind of action that capability to change motion. Force can be used to change the direction of an object or speed up or slow down the rate at which an object is moving. There can be no change in motion without a force. If there is ever to be a change in motion, there must be a force applied.

Inertia means that an object continues to move - or stay in motion at the same speed - unless acted upon by another force, like gravity. In other words, if an object is moving 10 miles per hour to the north it will continue to move at 10 miles per hour to the north because it has inertia.

When you are a new driver, you have to learn how to stop and start your car. You learn that you cannot move the car unless you apply force. If you do not apply force, inertia keeps the car at the same position and the same speed.

Newtons 3rd law is that for every action (force) in nature, there is an equal, and opposite reaction.

The statement means that in every action, there are forces acting on the two objects. The size of the forces on the first object&#160;equals&#160;the size of the force on the second object. The direction of the force on the first object is&#160;opposite&#160;to the direction of the force on the second object. Forces&#160;always&#160;come in equal and opposite action-reaction force pairs.&#160;

If a car has a force applied on it forward at 10N, and a downward force of 6N, will it accelerate?

As the net force increases, so will the acceleration of the car. Because a net force is also an unbalanced force, any unbalanced force will cause a mass to accelerate.

A net force causes a mass to move. This net force is 4 because the friction (2N) minus the velocity (6N) equals the net force (4N).

When there is an unbalanced force, there will be acceleration. The acceleration of an object depends on the objects mass, and the force that is applied to it.

Video #1- In this video, a ball is thrown at a wall. When the ball hits the wall, it is forced to bounce off the wall with the same amount of force as when it was thrown. Video#2- In this video, you see a ball being bounced on the ground. When the ball is thrown to the ground (the action), it bounces of the ground with an equal amount of force (reaction). Video #3-When the balls are bounced, the downward force pushes the balls toward the ground. The ground's upward force goes against the ball and the ball bounces back up. Video #4- When Damah goes into the wall, she hits it with her feet and the wall pushes a force back. She counters this force by bending her knees to help decrease the force. Video #4.5- When Damah hits the ball, the ball is at the same force as her arms, so it bounces away. Video #5- In this video, a door is being pushed open (action) and closed (reaction). When the door closes, it has the same amount of force as it did when it opened, only it&#8217;s going in the opposite direction.

Chapter 2: Newton's Second Law of Motion

Definition: The combination of all the forces in an object while gravity is acting upon it. Net force determines the motion of an object.

Example: As you hit a tennis ball with your racket, the force and its energy is being transferred from the racket to the tennis ball. This causes the tennis ball to move. The forces acting on the ball are its weight, regular force, and the friction that causes the tennis ball to move. Altogether, these forces make up the net force.
