Chapter 2: Basic Rules
There are many different rules to playing baseball the correct way. First we will start with batting. When you are up to bat you must stay inside the batters box that is on the left or right side of home plate. If three strikes are thrown and the ball is not hit it is an out. A strike is a ball that goes by the plate at the correct height (accurate pitch). If 4 balls are thrown it is a walk and the batter goes to first base. A ball is a wild or inaccurate pitch. When the fielding team earns three outs they switch to offense (batting) and the offense switches to defense (fielding). To get an out you can field the ball on the ground and throw it to first base before the batter reaches it.

A pitcher can also get a strikeout which is when the pitcher throws three strikes in a row without the batter hitting it. Another way is that a fielder catches the ball mid-air or before it hits the ground. There are nine innings in a baseball game . Whichever team ends up with more runs (points) at the end of the game is the winner. If the teams have the same amount of runs they will go into extra innings. There is also an umpire behind the plate that calls the balls and strikes. He or she also officiates the game. To score a run the batter must hit the ball with the bat in fair territory and run the bases without getting out.

Chapter 3: How to Play Baseball
People have many different techniques to play baseball but the game is still played the same. There is a pitcher that pitches 60 feet from home plate. Each position takes a certain role. The positions are Pitcher, Catcher, First Base, Second Base, Third Base, Short Stop, Left Field, Center Field and Right Field. The Left Fielder, Center Fielder and Right Fielder play in the outfield which is made out of grass. Most of the balls that are hit to the outfield are pop flies which are caught mid-air and count as an out. The infield is played by the other positions and is made up of mostly dirt. The majority of balls hit in the infield are ground balls.
