Introduction
------------------
Baseball is a popular sport enjoyed by people of all ages. Whether it be as entertainment, or just flat out playing the sport, baseball is fun all around. Adults, kids and even the pros all share a common trait when playing baseball and that is, that it's fun.
Chapter 1 - The Basics of Baseball
-------------------------------------------------
Before you can play a game of baseball, you have to know how to play it. On the field is nine players. The field takes the shape of a diamond with 3 bases, a pitchers mound, a home plate, and an outfield. The field's only objective is to stop the opposing team from scoring runs. The pitcher on the field has to throw the ball to his catcher without letting the batter hit it. If the batter does hit the ball inbound onto the field, than he has to run chronologically to one of the four safe zones. The defense has to stop the ball before the runner gets on base, or can advance a base. If the runner does get on base, then he has to advance all the way to home plate via either stealing, or having his teammates advance. If the defense can successfully get three runners out they switch to offense. Once both teams have played offense and defense, than the inning ends. Once 9 innings have been played the game ends, and the team with the most runs wins. Once you understand these basic principles you can play baseball, but there is much more you can learn.
When playing defense, there are 9 positions that you can possibly play. Those include, Right field, center field, left field, pitcher, catcher, first base, second, short stop, and third. All these positions have things that make them unique. For example, one position requires more field space than another in certain situations.
First lets talk about the 6 infield positions. First we have our catcher. His job is to catch the ball ( if not hit ) once it crosses the plate. If in a situation where the batter runs home, the catchers responsibility is to cover home plate. Next we have the pitcher, his job is to throw the ball to the catcher without letting the batter hit it whilst it is in flight. The pitcher can also field the ball if it is hit his way. After the pitcher comes first base. First base is located in the back right corner of the baseball diamond. The first basemen's job is to catch all balls thrown to him. At first, its an automatic out if the basemen catches it and he's on the bag. There is no need to tag the player out. The first basemen ( Just like the pitcher can field all balls hit to him. )

After first base is second base. This position is located in the top middle of the baseball diamond. Second base serves a very similar purpose to that of first, the only difference is that if a player is running to second you have to tag them out. ( This has the exception of if the runner is being forced to go towards second, in which case it's still a force out. ) Between second and third base is a position known as shortstop. This players job is to cover second and third base as needed. Just like all the other positions he can still field if the ball is hit to him. Finally we have the third basemen. He serves the same purpose as all other bases.
Now comes our 3 outfield positions, right field, center field, and left field. Their jobs are to cover the entire outfield. If the ball is hit on a fly to the outfield and is caught without it hitting the ground, the runners out. Same rule applies for the infield. Now lets see what kind of equipment you will need to execute the tasks required for these positions.
