Octavius cotto was an African American Born in 1839 who deserves to be put on a posted stamp for being a hero in his time, he showed he was a hero when he showed pride, genius, and finally commitment.

Cotto Octavius showed Pride when he fought for the Union army and recruited soldiers many African Americans who felt the same about equality for slaves in the south. Even though he didn't fight in the war he was awarded to major for his recruitment efforts, and was in the national guard.

Cotto Octavius goes as far as to put his life on the line for this cause, because he was the Prominent organizer for African American voting he was a big target. Sadly Cotto Octavius died from a gunshot wound to the back, he died instantly.
