Basketball is a team sport that can be played by men and women. Each team has five players on the court at a time. Basketball is a great sport to have fun with your friends and teammates.

Chapter 1 Basics

Basketball is a team sport. If you don't have good teamwork then your team won't be as good as they can be. Basketball has five players on the court from each team. The object of the game is to score points and the team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Chapter 2 Rules

Basketball has many but simple rules. When dribbling a basketball you can't dribble the ball with both hands at the same time. Also you can't pick up your dribble and then dribble again. If the ball goes out of bounds the team that didn't touch the ball last gets the ball. You can not hit people while they are shooting or dribbling because then you will get a foul. You are allowed to get five fouls in a game.

How to get Points

If you shoot the basket in the 2-point zone, you will get two points. A 3-point shot is where you have to shoot the ball from behind the 3-point line which is about 22ft away from the basket. History Fact: The three point line wasn't invented until 1986. Finally the last type of shot is a foul shot. If you get fouled, you can go to the foal line which is 15ft away from the basket. If you make the basket you get one point.

Chapter 4
Offense

There are three main positions you can play in basketball, post, guard and point guard. The posts are usually the tallest, most strong players on the court. There are two posts on the court at the same time. Guards must be good at outside shots. Also there are two on the court. The point guard must be able to dribble the ball well. There is only one point guard. The goal on offense is to score points.

There are two main types of defense you can play. The first is man, where you guard a person and don't leave them. The second type is zone, where you guard a spot on the court. There is also a special type of defense called a press. A press is where is you can play man or zone full court.
