Different types of paint look different and have different effects.Oil paints have a lot of pigment to them allowing them to have richer and more vibrant colors. However, oil paint can take many days to dry. Acrylic Paint can get darker as it drys, so the colors aren't as vibrant as oil paints. But acrylic paints dry much quicker than oil does. Water color us water based, so some colors could be diluted. Usually this occurs when you mix too much water with the paint. But you can control how diluted of vibrant a color is.

Chapter 2 : Supplies

      Painting is a way to express creativity. A painting can be of anything. From a building or a flower to random blots of paint. A painting can portray anything, but painters take a lot of time to do so.

Painting is an art in which you can do anything you want. Paint is unique. Sometimes it's different from others because you use different supplies. The most basic things you need are paints. Paints can vary. Brushes can vary too. In size, type, and the bristles. Of course you need something to paint on. You could use paper, or even paint a picture on your wall. But, most likely you need a canvas.

Once picking out paint, brushes, and something to paint on you can start sketching. It might be hard to think of something you would want to paint, but sometimes ideas just come out of nowhere. Painting takes time. You may finish it in 10 minutes or 10 days. Sometimes you finish it, then a week later you look back at it and make corrections. Paintings are never the same. Paint something different, something unique. Painting is what you make it.

What you are painting determines what brush you should use. Water color brushes are usually made out of sable, synthetic sable, or nylon. Oil paint brushes are made of sable or bristle. Acrylic brushes are almost entirely made of nylon or synthetic. Other than what brushes are made of, size can vary too. Usually small/thin brushes are used for fine lines or small details. Large or wide brushes should be used for a bigger surface area. Usually fan brushes could be used to create evergreen trees, such as pine trees. Also, there are pallet knives. These knives can be good at scraping down paint to create mountains.

Sketching is a rough drawing. It gives you an idea of what you are actually painting, drawing, or coloring. Sketching is important for when you are painting figures such as buildings, flowers, people, animals, or any shapes. Sketching helps with getting proportions right. Not only that but sketching helps to plan ahead. paint is much harder to get rid of than pencil. Sometimes an idea doesn't look great. If you sketch your idea first then maybe you could save yourself some trouble later, if the painting doesn't look good. It doesn't always help. Sometimes a painting just doesn't look good painted but looks good sketched.
