William Webb was a student at Rugby School in Great Britain.
In 1823, he invented rugby during a football match.
He picked up the ball by hand.
He started to run over the goal line.
Between 1845 and 1848, students from the Rugby School and students from the University of Cambridge codified the rules of rugby.
