Mixed-race twins Minni and Keira travel from Washington state to the South to visit their grandmother and compete in the Miss Black Pearl Pageant. The journey turns out to be full of struggles as the girls are faced with racial bias which divides the usually close sisters. Sundee Frazier tells the story of these preteen girls with humor while also showing the biases people of Color are faced with every day.
