The earth is always spinning. you don't feel it though because it is moving very slowly. that is how day and night happens because one side the earth isn't always night. At one time it is night, and in a couple hours it will be day.

Day happens when the sun is facing one side of earth. the light that shines on this side  makes day. When there is no light from the sun it is nighttime.

How night happens is when the moon is on one side and the sun is on the other side with no light, you can only see the moon and the stars.
