A ratio can compare a part to the whole, a part to another part of the whole, or the whole to a part.

Examples: part to part ratio of star to circles 3:5 or 3 to 5 or 3/5

Part to whole Ratio of circles to all figures: 6:14 or 6 to 14 or 6/14

Whole to a part Ratio of all figures to triangles 14:4 or 14 to 4 or 14/4

Line : a straight path of points that goes on forever in two directions

Ray : part of a line with one endpoint, extending forever in only one direction

Obtuse Angle: between 90° and 180º

Line segment : part of a line with two endpoints

Examples of common fractions

Fraction of a Region or Whole

Parallelogram : a four-sided polygon with two pairs of parallel and equal sides

Rectangle : a rectangle is a parallelogram with 4 right angles

Square : a square is a rectangle with 4 equal sides

Rhombus : a rhombus is a parallelogram with 4 equal sides

Trapezoid : a trapezoid is a quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides

The numerator tells how many equal parts are described.

A fraction shows a part of a region or a part of a set.

The denominator tells into how many parts the whole or set is divided.

The fourth step is that inverse operations undo each other, so if we have n-4+4=10+4 then n-4+4 undo each other because you add 4 but then take away those 4 so you cross them out.

The first step is to identify the variable. An example of this is n-4=10 the operation applied here is subtraction.

The third step is to apply the inverse operation on both sides of the equal sign. Let's go back to the n-4 example. Here the inverse operation is addition so if we apply it on both sides it will be n-4+4=10+4.

Congruent figures need to have the same size and shape that means that they are the same but in a different position or direction.

A figure has line symmetry if it can be folded in half so that one side&nbsp; reflects onto the other side.

A percent is a special kind of ratio in which the first term is compared to 100. The percent is the number of hundredths that represents the part of the whole.

A percent represents a part of a whole, just like a fraction and a decimal.

0.33333... = 33.33333...% Repeating Decimal = 0 . 3 = 33 . 3 %

The area of a figure is the amount of surface it covers

The distance around a polygon is called the perimeter of the polygon

The perimeter (p) of a polygon is the sum of the lengths of its sides

This rectangle has a length of 4 units and a height of 3 units. Its total area is 12 square units. A= 12 square units

For irregular polygons, add the lengths of the number of sides. This is an irregular pentagon. The formula for its perimeter would be: P=s+s+s+s+s

The formula for the perimeter of a square ( which has all of its sides the same length) is: P=4s Perimeter equals four times the side.

The formula for the perimeter of a rectangle or a parallelogram is: P = 2l + 2w or P = 2(l + w)

Equivalent Fractions

You can write equivalent fractions by drawing or multiplying the numerator and the denominator by the same number.

The second step is state the inverse operation. The inverse operation is the opposite operation, for example, addition is the inverse operation of Subtraction, and multiplication is the one for division. So the inverse operation in n-4=10 is addition

The sixth and final step is to check by substituting so instead of n we use 14 then 14-4=10 so we got it correct. That is how you solve an equation.
