Properties of Operations and Functions
🤔
By: Mateo Cano, Andrea Moreno, Alex Bruner
To estimate things you need to round first. Rounding means to replace the number to an approximate value that is shorter and simpler.
Ex:
It rounds to 5 because it is the nearest whole number.
1-1 Using Estimation Strategies
This is how to estimate a sum.
You first need to round both number to the nearest wholes number. Then add or subtract.
When adding or subtracting decimals, you need to always align the decimal point, no matter the digit difference.
For example:
In this lesson, there are 3 properties to keep in mind.
Associative
Commutative

When multiply decimals you can forget about the decimal and you just multiply as always then after you multiply you move the decimal point depending of how many numbers are after the decimal point if there a 2 numbers then you move the decimal point two times to the left
Ex.
1-3 Multiplying Decimals
Dividing decimals by 10 or by 100 is very easy. You just but the decimal’s decimal point 1 time to the left for every zero it has.
Ex.
To divide decimals by decimals is more complicated
1-4 Dividing Decimals
For dividing decimals by decimals you need to move the divisor’s decimals point until it is a hole number. You move the decimal point the same number of times for the dividend.
